Description
hi. Haven't been doing much music for awhile, but a couple of months ago i picked up a beautiful native flute. i mostly enjoy just improvising on it as a form of prayer and meditation. thought i'd try recording it to share. not my best performance (just getting over a sinus infection) but it seemed contemplative enough. hope you all are well. peace, shay

Very plaintive...
I think you've played this beautifully, adding just the needed echo to give the wood some space to breathe. I really like the gentle drum beat, too. What a peaceful little song that calls out into the night with clarity and longing, very much capturing the style of this genre. What a graceful song!

Thank you for your very kind words. I've really loved this flute from the moment I picked it up. It just seems to fit me so well, and I'm just now starting to have fun discovering all the ways I can record it and make it sound. I'm glad you enjoyed this first venture.

Plaintive, as Paul said, is a good word. The use of the drumbeat is really appropriate. Really good to see you back Shay, with something a bit different! Very, very nice. Maybe it will inspire me to do something too. It's been far too long.

I'm glad the echo wasn't too much. I thought it might be a little heavy-handed but it sounded too cool to take out. thank you for your kind words.

Lovely new music to celebrate your return. It sounds as though the music is simply flowing from the flute. Very calming. Thank you.

Haunting piece, Shay... but in a good way :-) It sounds as if it is being played into the night and is being reflected back by the hills. Different and enjoyable. Thanks, Peter.

simplicity...
Read the title and was so happy to find that you had posted a new song! To find an instrument you like is a real blessing. My happiest and most profound musical moments I had - not in front of my keyboard and home studio - but singing devotional songs with my harmonium:)

Your recording is very soothing and inspiring. The sound is full and haunting, and your improvisation speaks the language of something timeless, maybe the inner search for something higher, or just a peaceful, spontaneous expression of a poise you found within. The drum is like the heartbeat to the melody and adds a dynamism to the soulful intensity of the flute playing.

Really nice, and I fully agree, that music like this can absolutely me a meditation or a prayer.

i've been playing this flute at church, doing improvised "prayers", sometimes with drum and sometimes without. you are right that the unrehearsed moments can be most meaningful. I very much appreciate your listening and sharing your thoughts. and I'm glad you liked it.

Nice echoey soundscape...
...starting right from the drum... So even with just the two instruments, there's a sense of depth rather than just left and right...

And it's a good sort of vibe to put out into the world right about now, which is not to be sneezed at... Sounds really nice, Shay...

A
lovely piece that is beautifully played, very relaxing.
I always enjoy the sound of the flute and to hear you play was very much enjoyed.

This sounds like music that comes out of the earth and sky. It just works - uncontrived and speaking volumes in a few heartfelt notes.

Glad to hear a new post from you. Many thanks for allowing this to be shared.

Peace,
Doug
