Slow Burning Story

Description
Another brand new song. This came from playing with a few chords on my LP after dropping the tuning by a semitone. It's deliberately a little ambiguous and as a result a little sinister in places despite the words appearing on the face of it to be quite sweet.
For a change I've slowed it right down and changed the tone entirely ...

Lyrics
There's a slow burning story
That I'm telling to the girl on the phone
I'm not sure she believes me
But I'm sittin' here on my own

You've got it in you
To be the only one for me
You're gonna see
Who I am

I'm not broken man
I'm not a tattered flag
but
You've gotta see with your own eyes

Here's a slow burning story
'Bout a girl who had a secret wish
I'm not sure she believes it
But I'm happy just to take a kiss

You've got it in you
To be the only one for me
You're gonna see
Who I am

Subtle.
Yep, Subtle, powerful, ambiguous and superb. Even the mixing is good, I could feel my abdomen vibrating with the bass and I didn't even have it loud; it takes very good recording and mixing to get that to happen at moderate volumes. The vocals once again remind me of some of the better Pink Floyd songs, I think it's not just the way you sing but also the way you layer things. I'll no doubt download it when the site is working properly again.

Slow Burning Story
Slow burner is right, Paddy. I like this lots. Intriguing concept and excellent delivery. The dynamic change is really well done. Love the tone. Very strong post. Thanks, Peter.

back in the JAMC vibe
man this could have been on stoned and dethroned. very cool. you handle the vocals really well. there's a bit of the mama's and the papa's in there. without the mama, lol. the distortion is way loud. which is perfect. love the change. that's a tempie change but I won't charge you royalties. 2nd listen really like the percussion too. man I said the last song was your best song to date but this is really good too. another tune on the ipod, thanks man.

Familiar territory
IF you have channelled Barrett there is not reason to complain about the power chords. If instead you have no idea about Barrett then find out... you are in his bag. A good thing, just jarring to the memory.

I'm Not A Broken Man
Paddy,

I was sure I made a fool of myself over this lovely tune of yours, but I guess it was someone else's dream.

Your vocals sound so good in this filthy slow song. Really excellent job. I hear the JAMC influence and I'm sure they do too.

One of your finest, for sure. Keep exploring because the last handful of songs have been really interesting and this one ices the tamale.

I'm there
My sister's friend come to visit from out of state once. He brought like 100 CD's with him and that seemed like ALL the CD's at the time. This was probably '93 or '94. I was in to the Beatles, but that was pretty much all I listened to. But this cat dropped nothing but early 90's Britpop and British indie. It was one of those moments that changes you. This tune fits in with all those CD's. Particularly due to the first 3 chords. All those records had a song with those first 3 chords. I've tried to write a song like this for 20 years, man. Hell, my latest is one of those attempts. This is crazy good. You scaled it back, even on the intense parts. And that did wonders for telling the story. Great job. DL'd

I grew up in the 70's and 80's in the south of the UK in an Irish family. I had always loved music but was never given an opportunity to explore making it for myself. About 10 years ago I bought an acoustic guitar and began strumming in earnest. To d... [see more]
