Description
I sent the music track to my friend Jere asking if he could come up with lyrics, he sent me lyrics and a recording of the vocal. After some back and forth we settled on this for the time being, although we are still working on the track, especially the Chorus where we may add other harmony voices as a counterpoint to Jere's vocal, and a repeat of the chorus (twice) at the end. Some have suggested that the piece was influenced by Dylan, maybe, not on my part tho, Jere has always delivered his vocals in a half talk, half sung fashion. While this is a Demo, and needs a little more work, I thought I would share it in it's present form.

Hope you like it:

Lyrics
1. somewhere, back down the road aways,
wasn't it you
who had all the words to say ?
Sometimes spoken with the soul of an angel.
Sometimes like a devil on fire.

2, But all along I tried to be true,
as true as any man can be.
Through the ups and downs
You know I done my best.
Done my best to be the one for you.

(chorus)
you gave me strength
to carry on.
Picked me up when I fell.
Gave me the will to find my way.
made the sun shine right in my day.

break

3. Somewhere, back down the road aways,
wasn't it me who used to say,
There's a world waiting that lays ahead,
and I gave you my shoulder to lay your sleepy head.

4. Time goes on, and all things come to pass,
but I was the lucky one
when you took the chance.
You gave me strength to carry on,
picked me up when I fell.
A little heaven and a little hell.

(back ground chorus)
you gave me strength
to carry on.
Picked me up when I fell.
Gave me the will to find my way.
put the sun shine right in my day.

Well Dave
Jere, did an excellent job with the vocals and the lyrics..... a really good performance and song here by you both, though like you, I think those chorus's could be built right up even more and it would sound really fantastic. It still stands up as it is though, regards M

Hi Dave....
I really enjoyed listening to this mix. The balance, accompaniment and singing are all just about there, for me. One slight pause, after the words 'when I fell' in the first chorus. The delay, to my ears, doesn't fit. It's not there on the later chorus. Maybe it's just me.

The music is arranged just so well and the singing just plain fits.

Take care.

Paul

Clean guitar. Warm Bass. Rich vocal tone and smooth harmonies. The harp is a nice touch. Easy melody. Interesting words. It all works for me!

Understated
and very well done. Vocal delivery really suits the song and that chorus is great.

As Sammy said, I wouldn't want to hear too much extra on this.

It will be interesting to see where it goes.

Cheers

Dylanesque, yes, but not just a parody. A quality song in its own right. I like the understated vocals a lot. Wonderful warm, spacious, balanced mix. The present form is just fine by me. Thanks, Peter.

From the heart! Is that you playing guitar Dave? Love the strumming. Great tone. The harp screams Dylan! Love that!

I can hear a Dylan/Springsteen influence. I like the phrasing/attitude in the vocals. Clean strummed guitar and harmonica goes well with the vocals.
