Bring Back That Seventies Spirit Now

Description
Both "Rock" and "Political" apply here. I wrote the song a year or so ago, but the socio-economical and political situation it deals with still exists. It is well over six minutes long, but there seemed to be a lot to gripe about, and I wanted to get the sax ride in.

Lyrics
Can you believe what’s goin’ on in this land today?
Fancy suits with minds of red are makin’ hay.
They’ve pulled the slickest trick and have folks thinkin’ bein’ sick is okay,
As long as they and no-one else ever have to pay.

They and their friends look at the Street from up on high,
Workin’ hard to get the big slice of the pie.
Don’t you know that’s mighty sweet, and then to get an extra treat on the fly,
And others get a vacation and a new home by-and-by.

Bring back that seventies spirit now, and let it shine,
That’s when we tried to pull together, and it wasn’t all about the bottom line.
There may have been some dope, but there was also lots of hope for yours and mine,
Bring back that seventies spirit now, and let it shine.

Now there’s a good man at the helm of the ship of state,
Who’s tryin’ hard to guide us all to a better fate,
But clouded minds and twisted hearts have another chart and won’t wait,
And we’ll be lucky if they don’t scuttle us at this rate.

Let’s not forget this endless war some folks still excuse,
Even though a righteous start soon gave way to a ruse.
Since then too many’ve had to die, and even more have had to cry for no good use,
But who’s going to end it now if it means we lose?

Bring back that seventies spirit now, and let it shine,
That’s when we tried to pull together, and it wasn’t all about the bottom line.
There may have been some dope, but there was also lots of hope for yours and mine,
Bring back that seventies spirit now, and let it shine.

Sax ride

Rap interlude

Forget the double knits,
And all the floral prints.
We heard CSN teach,
And Brother Billy preach.
We spent nights with eagles in their nook,
And gave the hook to a crook.
We all loved CCR,
And put an end to that war.
There was so much that had to be done,
Or was it just that we were so young?

Bring back that seventies spirit now, and let it shine,
That’s when we tried to pull together, and it wasn’t all about the bottom line.
There may have been some dope, but there was also lots of hope for yours and mine,
Bring back that seventies spirit now, and let it shine.

Good God.

Seventies
Catchy tune. Forthright delivery. I don't remember the 70s that way, but that's OK. Well done. "Good God" hahahaha.
