Hey Charlie, good to hear from you again.
This is exceptionally cinematic and chasing the sun is one of my favorite pastimes (usually with a golf ball, but even without is good ;-) A cool listen after hearing so much rock around this place (and not the kind in your photo above). Thanks.

Soundtrack ready
Rendered by musicians rather than midi this would fit nicely into many soundtracks. It really has a great mood to it for the happier sections of a movie, and fits the scenery in the image perfectly.

A Western Epic
I'd like to see this film! I see cowboys riding across vast landscapes, wagon trains, herds of steer and wild mustangs. Great music, powerful and evocative.

SUN CHASER
majestic ... I need to chase the sun more ... I like the repetitive deep bottom bass sound, don't know whats making it but it's the driving foundation for all the wonderful instrumentation. Makes me feel a sense of freedom ... wind in my face... wonderful cinematic piece!

Saddle them up
and head out...yeehah! You captured the spirit I've associated with cowboys riding the plains. You may be a distant relative of Aaron Copland. Or else, you two are kindred spirits. A truly gorgeous work. Thanks.

Copland
was not only a wonderful composer but one who supported and encouraged others with their music and I'd have been proud to have been even remotely related.
Thanks Char,

SUN CHASER
Nice work. Definitely has a (majestic) western theme - produces images of vast expanses of desert and canyons and outcroppings of rock and other natural wonders. I enjoyed listening to this - thanks!

Positive, joyous composition, Charles. A song waiting for a movie :-) I, too, would really like to hear this with a live orchestra. Congratulations. Regards, Peter.

Fantastic photo
Love the effect of the sun and how it creates a long shadow. The song has such a melodic feel to it and depicts the title to the song very well. Enjoyable listen, thanks for sharing.

Ah, a modern western
What's interesting here is that you have a piece - sweeping and golden and made of the elements of the great outdoors - and yet while you have a nod to the syncopated style of movie western themes, this is clearly all your own. I even heard what sounds like a snippet from Big Country at 2:35 in the string melody, which if it was your intent is a nice way to reference a piece from the genre while keeping the overall creation original. If it wasn't your intent blame it on my pattern matching brain and/or overactive imagination.

And speaking of the strings, I love that contrast between the brass and strings in their rhythmic interplay. There's energy but also all the time in the world as the land rolls on as far as the eye can see.

I'll bet you had fun creating this one.

Be well Charlie,
Doug

I did
enjoy working on this Doug. Like getting back in the saddle again. As always I love your thoughtful and detailed comments and poetic descriptions which for me augment the piece.

As for the Big Country. I wasn't conscious of it but was aware that I was veering into familiar territory. I love Jerome Moross' score and I'd be happy to call my little offering and the Big Playground.

Cheers,
Charlie

Saddling Up!
Yep. You have that photo clearly in mind with this western-styled romp at Dawn (or sunset). I really like the energy in this track and the brilliant orchestration you've incorporated to paint your story. Love that little flute around 2:30. Wish it would soar a bit, as it gets buried before it can fly on its own. ... While I really love the feeling of this number, I wonder if a drastic and absolutely sudden key change about 3 minutes in wouldn't give this harmonic language (which is only 4 chords) a dramatic lift to push the piece toward its finale (a la Ravel's "Bolero"). That's just a thought that occurs to me as I listen to your energetic and brilliantly-colored music. Nice job on this, Charlie.

I'm very happy
you enjoyed this Paul. And thanks for the suggestions.
Sometimes when I'm pleased with a work as I am with this I tend to back away and say yeah that's pretty good but of course I have keep reminding myself that there's no harm in experimenting. Certainly additional chord changes are alway worth trying. I'll save this version and see happens.
Cheers,
Charlie
