Description
i hear things

seems like it took forever to get this tune finished. to busy or to lazy or just being to busy on being lazy

one kinda cool feature on this tune is i wanted a big bass presence. i recorded two bas tracks, one at my usual setting and another with more treble and added a stereo chorus. a little spread between the two.

Lyrics
Silver Tongues and Golden Boys

i hear rambling conversations
on everything and nothing
i heard the words were said
random thoughts linger in the air
a wall of sound

someone sings a lonely song
i heard a song of love gone wrong
i only want to pull down the sky
and reveal the stars as they truly are

silver tongues and golden boys
will say anything
broken bells i hear in a voice
doesn't ring with me

someone sings a lonely song
i heard a song of love gone wrong
i only want to pull down the sky
and reveal the stars as they truly are

broken banks of memories
remember the best of times
wormholes rush through my mind
eating away the dreams

someone sings a lonely song
i heard a song of love gone wrong
i only want to pull down the sky
and reveal the stars as they truly are

Silver Tongues
Another cool VH tune. This one has a darker, more somber tone to it, but it's still very interesting. I like the vocal chorus as part of the soundscape, and that interlude at 2:30 is very cool. Nice work Vic - enjoyed!

Darkness.
You nailed it with the bass, Vic. Great job there! ... There is such a dark quality to this music, sort of a rumbly effect created by all that background. The breakout of solo acoustic guitar around 2:20ff is a nice break, and the lead material around 3:10 is really wonderfully rendered. The sadness of your lyrics is perfectly reflected in the music you've written. (Would like to hear the vocal a little more up front.) Very different sound from you...Ending was...abrupt. Maybe a trail-off with that solo guitar fading into the sunset??? Just a thought. Really nice work.

Big bass indeed
Well, I think you managed that!

Really excellent work Vic.

Great guitars. The stabs around 3:00 and at the end work so well.

Simply brilliantly put together. Tight and coherent arrangement, intelligent lyrics and a splendid performance.

Ticks all the right boxes.

Cheers

Dick

the stabs..... originally it was just the acoustic doing those. then i thought what if........ so quite a few guitars there then i cut out the acoustic parts during those bits, for variety in tone

this seems like it would have been really challenging to put together, not sure why tho. anyway, i think your hard work paid off on this tune. you've created some really interesting chord progressions. i especially dig the vocal affect around 3:30. and of course, the production is amazing. nice work.

Lazy, but thankfully not lazy enough
This seems like an interesting blend kind of like psychedelic prog rock. Love that guitar solo that wails out of the wash of undulating dark tones, and your use of a vocal chorus made me think of Moody Blues numbers. Your bass experiment works for me although I'll admit the full impact might be lost in my ear pods. The tempo changes really add interest and your production overall is top drawer. Thanks Vic for the dload!!

Before I even read the blurb...
I was listening, and I was really struck by, not the size, but the timbre of that bass presence... It has that John Entwistle, are-those-piano-strings-on-your-bass?, quality....deep, but unnaturally articulate....

I really like the lead tone, too, which has a slightly thicker, harmonically rich, not-so-trebly-as-usual tone...

If I was going to nit pick anything little, I'd say that the cool acoustic arpeggiation could be tighter, time-wise, because you're kind of leaning on it in the arrangement...
Vic Holman said 1666 days ago (November 4th, 2012)
thanks ed
timbre........ thats the word. the volume isn't very high on the basses, but combining the two really made for strong presence alright. the acoustic, that could very well be. thanks agin for giving it your ears ed, appreciated

Vic doing what Vic does...writing cool, thought out melodies over great soundbeds. I like this, especially the middle breakdown and lead. I like what you've done with the bass, fat and dirty, perfect for this setting.

i'm sure the dual bass technic is nothing new to you. i got a bit giddy on the sound of it. the middle break i thought creating a tension then letting it a release was a good way to break into the solo

i can get busy being lazy like nobody's business
at first I thought you wrote 'big brass presence' and i got all excited. vic and horns!! But the bass is cool. Pink Floydish. Until the chorus, which I love. So cool, how that atypical pop melody breaks out of the prog verse. And the solo is great too, as always.

Yeah buddy. I love the big bass sound you've created.

I hear so much in this tune of yours that I really like. The angelic back up vox are sweet. The disruptive crunchy guitar part just before the 3 minute mark was a nice surprise.

Excellent vocals and lyrics.

You hear things....
and sometimes.... you hear things that your heart desperately wants to over rule and silence common sense, because the heart wants what it wants ~ another human soul's connection. And so you convince yourself against all reason and practicality of the fallacy of truth in advertising; of the silver tongued promises that someone wishes they were capable of, but are just not capable of. Who is at fault? We all try to be the best possible version of ourselves, but in the end we are the sum of our experiences (good and bad) and the truth of our separate realities wins out. The only reality we can change is our own by being infinitely honest with ourselves. No one can live up to 'Brushfire Fairy Tales' ~ We all revert to our truest selves for better or worse, until we change what we can in ourselves for the better. Sorry, Vicar... too much belly button lint analyzed in suturing a scarred and wounded heart? What happened to "Tweety Bird's Pinafore"? Traded in for faded and worn comfortable Levis, and a T-shirt that says, "What am I? Fly paper for freaks?!!!" Just Kidding! lmao sorta.
