Description
Here is one dug out of the archives that never saw the light of day. Back in 2008 “Who Do you Think You Are?” had started around that time on the telly and I was doing the family tree (like many other no doubt!)
Anyway by the time I’d got back to great grand parents we had my father’s side in the far west of Donegal and my mothers in western Cornwall. It sort of looked like there were Celtic genes in my blood. I guess this is a romanticised little song based on those roots. I seem to remember writing it quickly and Steve coming round that afternoon. It got recorded, listened to a couple of times and filed away.If nothing else it might explain my fondness for Guinness!!

Lyrics
Celtic Genes On

There’s something so strong
About these western roots
It passes through the blood
And down the generations
The skin is so thin
It only takes a second for the joy
To seep in….sometimes

Just who do I think I am
The muse comes to me
With another song
Cornwall, Donegal
I’ve got my Celtic genes on

From Falcarragh to Flushing
In the nineteenth century
The Blacksmith and the Oysterman
They made their living
From the land and the sea

You couldn’t grow it any shorter
You couldn’t cut it any longer
You would not believe how low:
My self loathing can go…..sometimes

The sodden fields
And the tumbling sky
The crashing waves
And the seagulls cry
The edge of the world
A magical land
I feel it here
In my right hand

Dreamy geney
sort of sound....and now you have put me in the mood for a guince ! (guiness)And it's only 12:20
still it must be 5 o'clock somewhere (brilliant song Alan Jackson)....so I seem to have diverted from this little ditty.....and so I will take it away to have further listens.

Cheers

Any excuse
for a Guinness!

Very nicely done Mark. Lovely twists in the melody.

Creamy but dark, just like a certain drink.

Cheers

Nice work, guys. It does have an ethereal, dreamy mood to it like it is transcending time. And dreamy rhymes with creamy - just like the top of a Guinness. Unfortunately, I have no "Celtic" predisposition - I just like the stuff! Thanks, Mark. Regards, Peter.
