Description
i recored the music to this over 3 months ago. after a week i could not think of any lyrics, so it was on to a different project. during those 3 months i ended up with 2 more tunes without lyrics. so about a week a go i got a little motivated and wrote 3 sets of lyrics in under a hour. this one, one for the doomsday challenge (just waiting for the post date on that one) and another for the end of the year (if we make it that far)

Lyrics
Driving To The Sun

we are driving full bore through this place
and we will not be coming back here anymore
nothing here to hold us down
sunset shadows are growing long

we're driving far far away
with no place to stay
we are free to roam

never believed in the messiah of dreams
can't say i ever saw the forest from the trees
we are following the suns path today
nothing and nothing is like yesterday

we're driving far far away
with no place to stay
we are free to roam

driving in darkness with the headlights on
long ways to go to reach the sun
passed the moon along the way
we will drive to the sun everyday

we're driving far far away
with no place to stay
we are free to roam
we're driving far far away

Wow.
Channeling John Lennon, are ya?!
This is a terrific rock song, Vic. It is big and in-your-face and just doesn't let up. Great guitar work at 1:44 or so during that bridge. How fun to hear you just let 'er rip like this, no holds barred. And a wonderful graphic to accompany the whole thing, too. What a pleasure to hear this kind of quality work.

Road trip
This is a theme I can relate to - you know how we Americans love our road trips : )

I love the sound of your clean guitars driving this piece!

As a songwriter I seem to pile up a high ratio of soundtracks compared to those pieces which get a complete set of lyrics. I recognize those dry periods you write about .. and also those times when inspiration flows and the words just pour out. It would be nice if there was a consistency to the process, but perhaps that is asking for too much.

Now .. if the price of gasoline would come down .. road trips would be more affordable!

getting the music down is the easy part for me. but after writing tons of lyrics for songs it gets harder on trying not to repeat ones self.

lyrics can be a fickle moment of fate. sometimes you write something down on paper only to ball it up and toss it away. i use to be so much quicker in that department

Great guitars! How many are there? What effect are you using on the solo that starts around 1:40 or so? Good song. Energetic vocal. Love ya work, Vic!

4 rhythm guitars, although 2 are repeating basically what the other 2 are doing. plus a lead guitar going through a early '70's morley wah wah pedal.

Bit o' grit...
...in the rhythm guitars...grit, but lots of chime still...

I like the contrast of tone for the the lead break, and the way the lead is phrased and wah'd...

My only nit will be that with the guitars being tonally where they are, and the drums leaning on the snare and high hat, I'd like a bit more depth from the bass and kick drum, or something to anchor it on the bottom...
Vic Holman said 1634 days ago (December 2nd, 2012)

Driving rocker
Great energy throughout and that solo wails. I have always liked your vocal treatments - both the singing itself and how you filter and widen the vocals. And 3 sets of lyrics in an hour sets a pretty high bar for the rest of us. Appreciate the dload Vic.

most of the time i write in metaphors, so it works for me. :-)

this morley is the best from all that i have had or tested. even as old as it is. however you wouldn't want to use in standing water or rain... it is AC powered, no batteries

Great vocals - nice beat
This is very well produced - simple rock in many respects. The lyrics remind me of Wooden Ships in some respects - either version (I prefer Kantner's to CSNY's).

Classic
The song has a really driving move forward and a slight air of menace. The lead guitar is wonderful. To my ears though the vocals sound a wee bit thin and sort of sat "On" the mix rather than "in " the mix. Just an observation. Still enjoyed the song

Hitching a ride....
on Haley's Comet, didn't pan out so well for the purple kool-aid kids out in CA.... F-ing WACOesque Egotistical Wing Nut Evangelist Zealot JackAss follow the Leader!!! Love Yer Graphic tho.... dear, Vicar. : ) Can I hitch a ride with you Klaautu (sp?) ?!!! Much prefer your song, "Without The Sun" (gotta scroll way down on the list on your main page for that Gem!), but when I close my eyes to dream of a better world, and I listen to "Without The Sun" I can see myself laughing and happy and riding shotgun with you at the helm doing the "Detroit Lean" with your left knee propped up on the dash and steering with your right hand while flipping off our failed experiment of a planet with your left out of the cockpit of your Model-T Spaceship, headed for a place where sentient beings grasp the concept of "The Golden Rule" and truly apply it to their lives, without exception. "Imagine" by John Lennon :~ )
