Description
The world is about to end so... EVERYBODY POLKA!

When I thought about what genre of music would be most appropriate for the end of the world, naturally, I thought of the Polka. I mean, you really can't focus on doom and gloom when you play the accordion. So. I used my vast experience as a former member of Mississippi's only Polka band to put together this little number.

The accordion is really an accordion. No midi. I'm not that great with it, but I have a lot of fun playing it and hey, with the end all nigh and stuff, might as well have fun.

This is dedicated, of course, to Cthulhu and the other Great Old Ones and Outer Gods who will be brining about our destruction next week.

Enjoy!

Lyrics
The Doomsday Polka
©2012 Joseph Gurner

Strike up the music
Bring out the beer

And dance the Doomsday Polka

Grab a pretty girl
And hold her near

And dance the Doomsday Polka

Forget all your worries
Forget all your strife

Just dance the Doomsday Polka

Don’t be afraid
Cause the end is night

Just dance the Doomsday Polka

And when your calendar comes to an end
Just turn it back and start over again
Let the music drive your worries away
Just dance the Doomsday
Just dance the Doomsday
Just dance the Doomsday…

And when your calendar comes to an end
Just turn it back and start over again
Let the music drive your worries away
Just dance the Doomsday
Just dance the Doomsday
Just dance the Doomsday…

Strike up the music
Bring out the beer

And dance the Doomsday Polka

Grab a pretty girl
And hold her near

And dance the Doomsday Polka

Move to the music
All day and all night

Just dance the Doomsday Polka

Though we’re all doomed
It still feels alright

Just dance the Doomsday Polka

Clap, clap, clap clap!
A perfect choice for the end of the world, Joe: we should all be dancing when the lights go out. Great fun and the artwork is terrific.
Just dance the doomsday polka! Hey!

So very sad
This is almost as scary as getting the infamous "120 stars" on Macjams and disappearing...

Absolutely loved the polka performance!

It is a pity to think that we're about to lose such a multi-talented guy... I'll see you on the other side!

Polka On
Having been to the Wurstfest in New Braunfels more than once I know my polkas. This is a great one. Only thing you left out was drinking that German beer to chase away your fear.

That's the spirit
Yeah, accordions do have that effect. Same with banjoes. Reminds me of an old Steve Martin bit about a future president who would whip out a banjo and start playing in response to difficult questions from the press concerning all the horrible things happening to our country. Everyone would instantly cheer up. Well, this is a very happy piece. I feel better already. And thanks for organizing the DOOM2012 fest!

There
you go, Joe. If drunken couples can survive the accordion and the wild kicking of a polka, I'd say they would give Cthulhu something to wrap his tentacles around, like a spicy, exploding kiebasa. Your polka stylings are... wait for it.....legendary! Thanks, Joe.

The Doomsday Polka (DOOM2012)
The real sad part of this doomsday business is that (if my understanding of polka is correct) there will be no beer in heaven.

Wonderful track! Such a joyful listen. Love your accordion playing!

Ah yes!
There'll be a hot old time in Portsmouth when the fish-people are dancing up a storm to this at the Temple of Dagon (I love his work--it's nice to see these names again somehow!) I could never get the hang of the accordian, so used to playing piano where the fingering is in the opposite direction--you really play well Joe. I JUST LOVED THIS! It's greatly appealing, novel, and the perfect addition to this challenge. Great, great stuff--thank you so much for putting your talents to it! Michael

The Old Ones stir...
...their fell chants rendered in that dread instrument called by the Mad Arab 'the accordion'...

And it takes a special kind of guy, Joe, to know that Dread Cthulhu is just really, really fond of the polka as an artform. This is going to set you up for livin' large in the End Times...

How can anyone have a care in the world with this kind of tune in the background? Very catchy Joe, and you play well. I'll remember that for my next Oktoberfest party.

Left left, right right.....

Nice one!!

Now I'm all Doomsday'd out. Last to first in a morning. All good stuff, not least this one. Take a trip to the Altstat in Dusseldorf and give this a pIay. The locals will love it! But go today, just in case... I hope we're all still around in a day or two. I promise I'll go through all these songs again. There!
