Description
"In the year 2012 the Earth awaits a super catastrophe: its magnetic field will completely reverse in one go. Phenomenal earthquakes and tidal waves will destroy our civilization. Europe and North-America will shift thousands of kilometers northward and end up in a polar clime. Nearly the whole Earth's population will perish in the apocalyptic events. These predictions stem from the Maya and Egyptians. They are descendants of the legendary Atlantis, which is currently buried under the South Pole."

--- Patrick Geryl, author and pretend-scientist

So, there you have it.

Last tune of the year. Oh, wait … last tune … period. Farewell and adieu.

Credits:

Les ----------guitar playing, programming, doomsday prepping
Melissa ------ tambourining, skeptically inquiring
Skippy ------- hoarding, ammunition buying
Patrick Geryl -- fear mongering, snake oiling, money making
YouTube ----- pseudo-scientific blathering

Ditto what Andrew said!
It's just too bad it's your last tune, period. Damn, this is good.
Personally, I've never heard of Patrick Geryl so his opinion just doesn't count, though I am amazed to learn about the whereabouts of Atlantis.
Damn, this is good (did I say that already?)

Looks like we all got a reprieve. More bombast to follow in 2013. I'm glad you haven't heard of Geryl, actually. He's gotten enough publicity, and I wonder how he's going to face all the people from whom he accepted money. Anyway, thanks for the nice words.

I appreciate you stopping by. I've always admired your work here. Thanks for the detailed comments on my latest piece of bombastic self-indulgence. I DO enjoy mucking around with meters. Freight train hahaha -- yeah, that's what it sounds like, now that you mention it. Well, when all was said and done, we survived.

I ain't afraid of no zombies, after watching The Walking Dead. Continents skating around on the surface of the Earth's core I'm not so keen on. Luckily, we just missed that it seems. Whew. Back to business as usual. Thanks Vic. I enjoyed your doomsday tune as well.

The ultimate 'big finish' effects in rock's global stadium show
How you conceive of and lay down what it normally takes 4 to 8 guys to create and pull off is a wonder. I have to stop typing just to take all this in. Hang on....

I'm back. Holy cow. Holy cow.

Holy cow.

Are you actually an musical AI program that IBM has put into Big Blue? I guess I could never know from your answer.

Even though I'm especially partial to this kind of rock ...... Holy cow.

That was an amazing ride my friend. Skill, taste, and creativity abound in just about any way I would want to think about it. And I don't want to get too analytical since my head would explode like that dude in Scanners.

Thanks for the great tune now in my collection to be listened to with great respect and awe.

You rock.

Doug

PS - Holy cow.

PPS - If I were in your credits it would be for hand wringing, running in circles, and acting stupefied

Hi, Doug
Well ... no doubt about it ... comment of the LK Year. I'm really jazzed by your warm reception to this. I like it pretty well. There were some additions and some re-recording that I had scheduled, but I ran out of time. Very little guitar, very synth heavy. This is actually the spawn of another (forever in progress) tune, although it took on a life of its own, especially after I got the doomsday theme going. Anyway, good fun, lots of work, but not quite enough. It will have to do. And thanks again for your extremely kind feedback. That dude in Scanners hahahaha. It blowed up good, yeah, real good.

Hi, Char
The end of the world funny? Hmmphh. I was trying to be serious. Well, maybe not totally serious. I had a hunch that the doomsayers might be wrong ... again. So, yeah, it was like putting a puzzle together, like a lot of my stuff. That's why my little tunes always end up being so long. I appreciate your patience in listening to it, and thank you kindly for the comments.

Hi, Tim
Well, that was the other idea, that 122112 was supposed to be the beginning of some new spiritual awakening. The New Age stuff, the Singularity, etc. Eh, I have my doubts. Life goes on pretty much the same in the whole. But that's fine by me.

Knock out
I sometimes wonder what these proggy pieces of yours would sound like without the progginess. Your synth forays are usually good enough in their own right. This, without drums, [obvious] guitar and bass? I suspect it would still be a goodun. Anyway, as it, wonderful music. I've downloaded it btw, just in case Patrick Geryl is only, as you say, pretending

Hi, Dave
Ya know, I might take you up on your challenge one of these days. Maybe I'll post an ambient version of something at the same time the full version goes up. Could be interesting. The progginess is carried largely by the rhythm section, that's true. A lot of the guitar here is background ... hmmm. Well, you got me thinking.

This is cool
Now - this is more instructive than some of the songs I have heard. Dig the time and count changes along the way. That bass is crazy good. But I think the earth does not think like we do. I am a sucker for voice overs. These pseudo science book writers- I imagine they have made a buck or two on this.... what will they do now as their books end up on the discount shelf? This is epic and I dont really have a lot of time to listen to tunes of this length, but I must say- it captured me and I listened to the whole tune. You and your collaborators should be proud of this one!

My music feels rather diminished right now.....

I have got
to
do

better

Hi, Andy
I'm glad you found the time to listen through. It's true --- I do tend to go on ... and on. Your question about the authors (not to mention the extensive coverage on TV) is one that I've had for a long time. How are they held accountable, and how can they blithely crawl out of the woodwork at every opportunity? Waiting to see how this plays out. Anyway, glad you enjoyed the little end of the world tune.

Many more doomsdays in the future. I'm afraid you're right. What is it about human nature that causes every generation to think that their's is the last one? I don't get it. Well, before I start pontificating, let me just say thanks for listening to my little doomsday tune. Appreciated.

Super phenomenal
Your track is as encyclopedic a catalogue of the apocalypse as Geryl ever dared dream of. And, this being December 22nd, can still be enjoyed when his books have long since been recycled.

My compliments on this grandiose vision!
