Description
Most of this was created on my iPad using DM1, a great drum machine. Final mix was done in GarageBand.

Nice
Very pleasing to the ear my bro...good feel also. I haven't tried any music creation on the ipad, but this makes me want to try! Glad to hear a new track from you. I hope there are more coming.

I don't know if more are coming; I've been doing a lot of little musical experiments, but this has been the first in quite some time that I figured was worth sharing. Vac tells me he may have some guitar tracks for me soon, which would be awesome! There's a lot of great music apps--you should definitely check out DM1. Thanks for listening Drew!

Good to see you at MJ David!
This sounds great. I've had a bit of a play with GB on the iPad, but locked myself into more traditional styles, with verses and chorii and such. This is inspiring, and my iPad can look forward to a workout in the near future.
Have a good holiday, and a brilliant 2013.
Cheers from Oz,
Neil

I'm finding a lot of cool music apps for the iPad--DM1 and iElectribe are my favorites right now (two drum machines, of course!). I actually mixed this on my iMac in GarageBand... I've used the iPad version, but I prefer the keyboard-and-mouse experience for mixing. Thanks for checking this out, Neil, and Merry XMas and happy new year to you too!

Funny, I was also thinking this was music for the future. I was thinking, without vocals and lyrics, or even a guitar solo, why stick to the verse-chorus-bridge structure when there are so many possible other design choices? So I chose a structure that reminded me of birdsongs. Thanks for listening!

I just keep listening to it...
Over and over. It HAS structure, but not cliched or conventional structure. It's sonorous and both rhythmically and melodically entrancing...

Reminds of the Old Days around this place, when there was experimental and new sounding music that was challenging and fresh but still really accessible and enjoyable...

It is ridiculously good to hear something new from you, David... Also, you've got me looking speculatively at that iPad o' mine.... Hmmm....

I do miss the Old Days around here. It seems like that awesome community might have been a one time thing, but it was great while it lasted.

Thanks for listening to this, and I know what you mean about entrancing... that wound up being a guiding principle while I was mixing this; it's hypnotic, building these beats, and listening to them over and over and over, tweaking little things each time.

Thanks for appreciating the unconventional structure, which I'm kinda proud of... it's the music of little birds who tweet random but also highly organized songs when the sun rises. If the birds were also robots, somehow.

DM-1...Need Another Look
Love the M'bira sounds. I didn't know you do all this stuff with DM-1. Really cool. I too miss the community, but maybe we all just burned out. :-(
