The Second Candle

Description
This is a followup to The First Candle. This track is no longer appropriate for the season, but it looks like I will finish the whole cycle of four candles before Christmas of '13.

For people who not a good Catholic boy like me: on the four sundays before Christmas in Christian churches (definitely in Catholic churches) four candles are lit, one more on each next sunday. This period, "advent", the "coming" of Christ, is a period of reflection and anticipation.

Flutes
These flutes are ideal for this sort of meditative expression. Peace.

Flutes
Three recorders. The first candle used 3 tenors, this is 2 tenors and a bass.

The Second Candle
Being raised Catholic, this definitely has the feel of music being played in the balcony by the organist prior to mass. For a few minutes I was a kid again. Thanks for that Vic. I needed it today.

If
this music were played anywhere, anytime, I think the listener would definitely get in touch with his inner thoughts and feel safe doing so. Very calming and warm. These pieces seem shorter than they are and I can hardly wait for more. Thank you.

When we were kids
we used to laugh at recorders.

Not any more :-)

Lovely work Vic.

The second candle
Lovely breathy tone to the recorders - I don't know that I've heard them sound better than they do in this calm, reflective piece. Beautiful.

meditative
I like the renaissancey polyphonic textures and the lovely tones you're getting out of those recorders.
How do you go about composing a piece like this? (if you don't mind handing out trade secrets)

The Second Candle
To me, January and February are 'Quiet' time - the period of reflection and anticipation mentioned in your description; and very present in this piece!

Now - this is analog richness at it's finest
beautiful composition and expressive playing. I love how the overtones interact at times. Nothing beats the human breath.
