Description
Got some bad news yesterday. Turned on my very ancient Sequential Circuits Pro-One synth last night and made this. Seven tracks all Pro-One. No midi clock. Very little manipulation in post.
I found it weird calling this "electronic". The Pro-One is so analog the genre doesn't seem appropriate.

Update: I'm OK and so is my family. Just hit a speed bump the other day through some unexpected news. Gave me a reason to turn to an old neglected instrument.

Hypnotic but disturbing
That news must have been bad if it produced this.

Genuinely affecting.

Nothing money wouldn't fix
so not a real problem. Health and all is good - no worries. Just enough to cry in my synth. Which is why I kept it short.

Yes
It does sound 'pre-electronic'. Reminds me a little bit of the Logan's Run soundtrack, but much more melancholy. Sounds cool and matches the song art perfectly.

I read the title and thought you might be taking a shot at a jazz standard. This is more "you" than that would have been!

Realized there could be confusion
Still went with it though. Or ĂȘtre Coleman has a great track from 1962 Live T Town Hall called Sadness. That man is a master.

Bud, I'm
sorry you're starting off the year with some unexpected downer. It is so short, I played it twice. It actually sounds anticipatory of bad news like a funeral dirge but it is much more clever than a dirge. I hope it helped getting some of that emotion out. Nothing lasts forever. Thanks for this. It could be my theme song.

Pro-One
I'm sorry about the bad news, Bud, but the music that came from it is terrific. I've become such a big fan of vintage analog synths in the last couple of years and the Pro-One is one of my favorites because of its history (and obviously the sound, the bass, oi!), but also because it's small and adorable (not one of your criteria, I assume...). I love how much this piece could have been recorded in the early 80's and there's no way of knowing by the way the track sounds. An instant synth instrumental classic, in my book and I agree with Dick that it's tremendously emotional and affecting.

The photo...
...kind of says it all, Bud. There is something ominous about this track. But what I would say critically (in the best sense) is that you employed a minimalist approach to creating this and didn't muck it up with overlaying all sorts of "other" things. That would, I think, be very tempting when using a synth mod like this one. Your restraint, then, is palpable and, therefore, effective in painting a mood very effectively and clearly.
