Description
The image is of my father when he was about 5 years old (1929?). Unfortunately, he never got to hear this piece as he passed away late last November. So, this one's for you Dad: I hope you like it.

Basically two midi files by me, played by two instances of TAL NoizeMaker (Base Pad and Dark Animations Pad FN, both with some manual adjustments), and Grand Piano, along with some Conga loops and Cymbal.

Sweet Memory...
Sweet tribute. I have no doubt that your dad would have loved this gentle composition. Yes, it is filled with sadness and loss, but there is also a wistful quality that seeps through, especially with that mournful piano solo which you so carefully have performed sans additional accompaniment. I am especially taken by the TIME you give each element of this piece to unfold so naturally, always unrushed and purposeful. It feels like an honor to me to have been allowed into this world of loss and respect and remembrance. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful work that is so tenderly rendered.

Sweet memory...
For the most part, yes ;-) I suppose most father/son relationships are somewhat bittersweet. That said, thank you not only for your time but also your kind words: I appreciate them, and you.

Oh, Richard,
Nothing else in this world is as awesome as love shared over a lifetime. Your Dad was special and so is his son. I can hear the wistful sense of loss and the remembrance. What a moving and classy tribute. Thank you.

a reflective pause...
... father - son. Sparse yet very emotive piece of music. My Dad passed away last October. About the same age as yours. A void now exists. Your music communicates something that words can't. Thanks...

My condolences Jack
That void is pretty large but I have a feeling it'll soon get larger: my mother says my father is lucky. Glad the music spoke to you, and thanks for letting me know.

Always a son
This is both reflective and sad but not without that special light of life that comes from a close relationship. There is respect and grace here, spaciousness and a tender quality.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss and thank you for letting your feelings express this kind of beauty for us to share with you.

Peace Richard,
Doug

Childhood loss
I can't add anything to Paul Page's comment - he says it all - except that I enjoyed listening to this very much. Congratulations on this tribute, Richard.

Brought a tear to my eye.
Sometimes words don't do it, and music does. Thanks for sharing this moving piece. My mother died during the same week, so I have some idea of the feelings that brought this piece out. Sorry for your loss.

I didn't mean to do that
but it's gratifying to know that my music can cause other emotions than fun (which is what I usually try for). I am sorry to hear about your mom: mine's 86 and I think she doesn't want to see 87. Thanks for your kind words.

Very pretty piece
Parts seem almost ominous but the echoey finish is very touching. I like that the piano is just a simple sound weaving through the pads. Everything fits well in the mix.

Sweet tribute indeed
Simple but full of emotions. I can hear some similarities with my latest tune, Winter, with the slow pondering (acoustic) melody in front of a more synthetic soundscape background. Very nice :-) Just sorry about the occasion. My dad is about the same age too and has been feeling rather listless this January. Just hoping he'll stay around a bit more...

Anyway, thank you for sharing this, and take care (of yourself and Mom),
Henrik

Always happy to share, Henrik
I had hoped he'd stick around a little longer too, but he suffered a stroke a year or so ago which left him with diminished mobility and great frustration. Frankly, I think he's happier. Mom's in a similar situation and though they were divorced a long time ago, she'd like to join him. Unfortunately for her, we don't allow euthanasia in Canada so she'll have to suffer a little longer.
Sorry, I didn't mean for this to be a downer: thanks for the listen and the empathy.

Full of Feeling
Interesting to listen, consider other's comments, ponder on the title you chose, the photo and personally feel a strong connection to. The sole piano beginning at 2:34 is a jewel of emotion. Encapsulates the feeling, for me, of walking off alone. dl will be appreciated. Thanks.

melancholy
Lovely piece. I like the independence of the piano, which still makes it fit in.

On my headphones there is somewhat much low rumble in the right channel; it sounds like the reverb. I usually put an EQ on it.
