Description
In the winter of 1970, I wrote this piece for a young violinist with whom I'd become acquainted. We performed it just once in the fall of that year in a concert of my own works and it has not been heard since. Through the magic of the digital age, I am now able to present it once again, a simple little composition from my youth. I hope you will enjoy listening to this song from my archives. If you are interested, the score can be found here:

It is the middle movement of a longer piece.

Elegant
is a perfect descriptor for this. If I close my eyes I can see Fred and Ginger (in tails and gown, respectively) flowing and swirling around and around in a beautiful ballroom, each having eyes only for the other. This is really beautiful, Paul. Thank you.

So basically, you've been brilliant for a long time! This is gorgeous. Beautifully warm and melodic. I love the arrangement, too. Your musical gifts are received with the greatest of pleasure!

Dancing
Lovely melody. Perhaps simpler than your newer compositions, but still creative and captivating. Thanks for sharing.

Wow
This is really nice, and since I am at the moment trying to make some kind of orchestral piece myself (for the Spring section of my iPad book) I can at least begin to understand the skill and talent that goes into the making of a piece like this. Which, of course, enhances my experience and enjoyment of it. Great effort, in short ;-) I'm really happy you dug this out of the archives. Thanks.

Take care,
Henrik

Marvelous!
This is very well composed and mixed. Glad you resurrected this! I'm trying to figure out orchestrations and dynamics as I go. This is a great piece to study.

It's all been said
"Brilliant for a long time"

Wonderful work Paul. As Davajonah said I'd pay to hear this performed by an orchestra.

The subtleties of the arrangement are a joy although I think a touch of heavy metal as a coda might have worked well ;-)

Cheers

Dick

Forty-two Years Later..
For starters, I was just motivated to learn the word 'Arabesque,' which clarified the illustration, I just didn't get.. All while listening to this composition - which is like stumbling upon a pristine pool of cool, refreshing, soul-satisfying nourishment. I'm Happy this bit of energy was released for anyone to hear, and that i could dl it. Thanks!

Forty years gone
yet it still has your sou. I could almost see you and your violinist playing this as you did all those years ago. It's a window into your youth and I'm sure has a special meaning for you now.

On tech matters:
I don't have top notch solo violin and rarely one it in my work I do wish yours was a bit sweeter and less synthetic sounding at least it is to my ears or maybe it's just the low end head phones I'm using here at work.

Anyway lovely work Paul.
Cheers,
Charlie

Music
to soothe the soul.... this is really lovely and as Philip says, 'you've been brilliant for a long time' and how wonderful that we can hear the results of that brilliance. This has a spring-like elegance and gentle liveliness that we need at this time of year as we look forward to warmer days...... I love the ballet dancer doodle too... just perfect, regards M
