Cool tune! Kind of Beatle-ish. Interestingly it has elements of their early years (backing vocals, hand claps) while having a bit of the rock edge from the White Album. I would keep it a guitar based rocker. The horns at the end work very much like the horns on the White Album version of Revolution worked. But any solo space I would fill with some screaming guitar leads. Tight rhythm section. I really like your bass lines and tone.

Im going to start working on that retro sound thing I have going. I dont mean to do it. I havnt had time to work on the song much other than cleaning up the horns and eqing them a touch. Thanks for the listen and stop. I love the comments!

I like it as is. Alackbass hears the Beatles, but I also hear early Pink Floyd (pre-Dark Side of the Moon). Perhaps this sound is being channeled through your 60's era bass??

A great bass...
Its a great feeling and sound. Not mention it looks cool. Being from the midwest of the US, You would think I would have a country sound to me. Ill work on it hahaha.. But in all fairness. I did listen to these bands going up. Thanks for the stop and listen!

I agree with Andrew's comments - especially about using guitar for the solo. Not sure about the last few notes of the vocal, but I do like what you've done with the song - excellent work!

yeah...
I could see a sax solo working very well, but it is a good draft. I would hardly call it "rough".

I actually get the Who...
rather than the Beatles.....but then I like the
Who and dislike the Beatles ....no this is more early Who.....it's cool whichever way you want to hear it....retro rock ....kick it .....and put a bass line in there ....like the Ox would have ....I can hear a bass .....back in the mix a bit for me ........ great stuff

Jarvo made a good call re The Who
(although I like the Beatles more in general). I'm also hearing a big bass solo like Entwhistle would have done. I'd also be working the snare much harder than you have so far.
Cool draft Steve.

Over
Over the years if Ive learned one thing about recording. Its that If you have a good clear signal going with a nice level. There isnt much mixing involved. But it has a few bad notes. But thanks for the thumbs up on the groove! good to see ya Ego!

Henke said 1518 days ago (January 27th, 2013)
Hi Steve
Not too familiar with your previous work but this sounds more than promising. Has a live sound to it which works for me. My only nit would be the handclap which feels a bit thin, but I'm sure you'll fix that later on.

Thanks and take care,
Henke

You are the master
At creating music that embodies the very best of rock's roots. Yes, maybe a little Beatles, a little CCR, but, most importantly, Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, and the classic West coast tones made famous by a bunch of kids walking up and down 10 feet of lumber at the top of a massive wave... Thanks for sharing this!
