Description
Someone keeps saying that I have that seventies sound so I thought I would take a shot at a goth seventies new wave eighties rock ballad.

Lyrics
Wake up at times but my hands can't reach in my dreams
There's a song a melody it's my mind my own disease
Where it comes I will never know what I want and where I go
To that place where I rock my soul grab my axe and let it roll

It's the sound right out there in front of me
Use that dream remaining there for us to see

Waiting for times where a song will come to me
It's my life my entity where I find my destiny

It's the sound right out there in front of me
Use that dream remaining there for us to see

Make up my mind to turn a sound into a melody
There's a dream turned to reality lay it down so it can sing
Crank it up for all to hear play it loud 'cause it's so dear
Share it now they'll understand how you long to play in a rock'n roll band...

It's the sound right out there in front of me
Use that dream remaining there for us to see
Use that dream remaining there for us to see...

It's My Dream
Great showcase for your diverse guitar skills. Great rhythm parts both clean and crunchy. Really liking the twin lead parts. The 70s rocked and so does this.

Thanks so much for taking the time to listen. It means a lot and I know you probably feel the same way when you take time to come up with ideas, record the tracks, mixing and bouncing. The icing to me is reading your responses and seeing what effect my music has on you. I know this is a generic response but I didn't want to keep repeating myself. I truly cherish every word I read and I'm happy to see you here and the outcome of this post.

Well it's still definitely you....
But there are hints of the 80's romanticism of jgurner and the guitar layering of Vic Holman...

I think the guitars are nicely meshed. I like the arpeggiated, chiming guitars, especially in the left channel, and the way that you drop the guitars back for the verses. I think you're wise to keep the bass simple, anchoring, and even 'patient', just holding down the bottom while the guitars can chime, distort and drone over the top....

I think you did a nice job on this, John.... Nothing feels like 'too much'... the stereo field ends up being interesting to BOTH ears, and there's room for everything to be heard...

Very cool tune, especially the way the chorus opens up. I think your guitar playing sounds really good, in particular the leads which (as far as I'm concerned) could be layered into more of the song to spice it up (however, my own songs end up too dense, so forget that advice :) ) Great job!

Phrasing reminds me of REM. Chorus is a cool contrast to the verse. Cystal arpeggios are complemented by the punchy bass.

Grabbing it
Melody is .. a disease of the mind? That's an interesting concept.

Grabbing onto a melody .. that's the easy part. Taking it someplace interesting .. someplace new .. someplace different than what one has done before .. that's the tricky part. But you have obviously learned to trust your instincts .. because while you have decided to explore the sound of established models .. you have found a way to make it your own.

Rarely does our dream-vision for a melody come into flower the way we originally conceive it. I agree with what you saying here .. we often are so busy dreaming of something else that we often overlook the obvious - that "sound right out there in front of me." Here .. you have grabbed that sound by the horns.

Well said... I couldn't agree with you more. You get ideas in your head and how you want something to sound, in this case, when I laid down the tracks they didn't pan out like I envisioned (no pun intended) but it did fall in place. I'm glad you feel the message and I appreciate your observation. Means a lot.
