Shades of Grey

Description
This has nothing to do with a recent bestseller. I wanted to make a track that was going from dark to light, but in the end it all felt like shades of grey.

This exercises a bunch of effects and instruments that have gone underutilized in my output.

It does
From the super low tones, as magna says, up through the foliage to the bright blue sky... for me it does go from dark to light. Not so grey though, I hear a lot of reds and greens in there too. This sounds very cool!

I noticed you spell gray with an "e"
I'm digging the saturated white noise. This has a nice groove to it and the synth fits well. Enjoyed the listen.

Love the first part of this track, I'm having a bit of difficulty with the off beat-stuff in the second, but hey that's me.

I like this one Vic...
a lot! I guess all that bellows pumping paid off ;-) Delicious dark tones in the first half and then they lighten up slightly with that kind of iron-pipes-banging-together sound. Nice: I took a copy, thanks.

Shades
Great transition - i do hear/feel dark to light - as in a day about to start where you know you're completely out of your box. There's tension that comes with anticipation... and then those last ten seconds are like taking a deep breath and opening up to what awaits. My description may be clear as mud. Suffice to say: dl appreciated!

You're a master of layering! The low throb is awesome but what really grabbed me is the swirly electric piano that enters around :42 and gently floats around the stereo field! Very cool ending! I love that mix of sounds trailing away.

You
made something that has a visceral effect as it starts out but then it lightens up. I really responded to those low tones that might fit a thriller type movie. Some puzzle is being solved. Thanks.

Enjoyed this piece very much, Starts off what I can of sounding very dark and becomes cheerful with your offbeat happening in the later part of the song.

Nice use of the underutilized ... I agree with the dark to light ... the beat gives it a nice groove and the build up of layers is working well ... very much like a painting. If I was to do a painting for this I would have darkened the values of grey to the left of the composition with a gradual lightening as we move to the right.

Vic...
You cover a lot of musical ground, and I seem to end up enjoying most of that territory...

As with a lot of folks, I enjoyed the low tones...sounded super out of my monitors...and the gradually shifting mood of the piece...

Low tones
I've been buying Kontakt sampler instruments from a company named Hollow Sun (dot com). Nice stuff, but rather CPU intensive. The low pad is their Octothron with some Zebra bass under it. In the first two bars of the track you can hear their "Interference generator".

Other than Synplant (which becomes that psychedelic guitar) I'm using some fairly normal pianos with lots of reverb (PSP Pianoverb), echo (PSP Multidelay), and processing (SFX Machine Pro) on them.

Just a bunch of stuff I'd bought and insufficiently justified doing so.

Maybe for my next track I'll pull out some of my bowed string instruments :-)

Vaguely menacing, the piece builds well and has quite an hypnotic effect, Vic. I like the bass. Regards, Peter.
