Description
A Nonsense song.
Note: apologies to previous commenters, I took down an earlier version when I realized the mix was muddy and bass-heavy. While still not perfect, I hope this one sounds a bit better.

Lyrics
fog cloaks the scene
in the brook a fish runs silver / green,
a parallactic torch to light up my gloom
the whole estate's been weighed
they had to take down half the alphabet
but before i leave, i'm asking you
drink up your kool-aid
put down the gatorade
move it backwards, there's enough for the rest of ya
you like the grape gum
i got the last one
now you know how it feels
when you're stone cold defeated
& no one's on your side.
i'll tell you just once more
we've only met two times before
cuz number three
was somebody else
trying to hit the mark
trying to shoot at rainbows after dark
along a straight stone wall
hey look over here,
up the ladder goes
iris on her tiptoes -
gotta get back to the pumpkin festival
- you need a good laugh
go take a warm bath
it's the best when it feels like you're
stone cold defeated, no one's on your side

So I'm one of the few possessing a copy of the alternate mix! A Relic bootleg! This song is so cool. From pop to classic 70s hard rock. Downloaded again!

dirty, muddy goodness. cool trademark chord progressions. awesome solo in last minute of the song... how did this tune get so overlooked? strangeness abounds. thanks for the d/l.

Defeated
The heavier side of rock with pop sensibilities. Catchy and enjoyable. The riffage towards the end is epic. Fine post. Thanks, Peter

Great
guitars and a nice bass line too, a strong full sound with an excellent solo and mix.
Very much enjoyed.

thanks
Glad you liked, I wasn't sure about the mix as it seemed a little dark and sludgy. I think that's mostly just all the bass and mid's in the arrangement. However, I like a lot of sludgy music so what the heck!

Great guitar sound
Interesting lyrics and I've no idea what they're about!

Lovely break and I like the way you brought it back to the vocals again.

Very nice indeed!

Cheers

thanks!
The lyrics were intended to be nonsensical (I'm a fan of Edward Lear, Lewis Carroll etc, although obviously I can't approach that level of artistry or even know how they do it). I did throw in a few random images of things I like, like fish, grape gum, laughing, and taking baths. The pumpkin festival is from the ridiculous movie "Birdemic" (I urge everyone to check it out). Very glad you liked it!

iris, always on that damn ladder
Proof that you can sing anything and sound good. I love it when you get all power poppy. Great little lead shadowing the melody on the 'when you're stone cold defeated/and no ones on your side' lyric. Also, the garage stomp spazz out leading into the more demure bridge is just joyful. Secretly, you were/are in Sloan. Don't try to deny it, all the puzzle pieces fit.

And Klaatu were the Beatles
Glad you liked the power-poppish elements, I have another one almost done which is built along similar lines, but more coherent lyrix-wise....
As always, many thanks for dropping by!

Tempie says Sloan..
.. but I KNOW this is just an account Jason Faulkner has set up to test new material ....
Seriously dude this rocks. How it is you have never had a multi million dollar deal and why I'm not shelling out £30 to see you at Shepherds Bush Empire this year I will never know.
Like all the best power pop I've no idea if you're serios about the lyrics or if they are really nonsense and it just don't matter .
Great riffing and solos, great mix - what's not to love?
