Description
Many thanks to apb (Alan) for adding some next to genius backing vocals. This is an old tune from back in 2007, re-mixed, I re-did my vocals and made some heavy tweaking. I saw an article the other day about more Apple rumors, a new watch was the theme of the article with some other lifestyle monitoring devices... Hey... maybe Apple will come up with some iGlasses, that way Apple can monitor what I see and make suggestions to what I should look at. I thought about this old tune and how I should repost it here on macjams. Some of you may remember this and if so, thanks for the re-visit, and if not, thanks for taking the time to listen.

Lyrics
South of the border next to the sea
That’s where I lived that’s where I came to be
Raised in the tropics plenty to see
That’s where I learned how to swing from tree to tree
But you know that it’s O. K.
Equilibrium helps me stand up every day…

I am I am, I am a Brazilian
I am I am, I am South American
I am I am, I am a civilian
I am I am, am I an alien?

Now that I’ve moved I graduated
Bought me a car and drive like a striped ape
Found me a job that pays O. K.
Manage to make it there every time a bit too late
And I’d like for you to understand
That I’ve not decided who I am…

Lead

Here is my shot the American scene
Build me a shack on an acre filled with dreams
Find me a wife start a new life
Teach my children not to be like me
Maybe then I’ll finally understand
Doesn’t matter who I am…

I am I am, I am a Brazilian
I am I am, I am South American
I am I am, I am a civilian
I am I am, am I an alien?

*shucks*
A very pleasant surprise John. Made my day. Always loved so many aspects of this tune and still do. I think a fair bit of that heavy tweaking time must have been spent on ironing out my backing vocals .. I must say, what I really like about this mix is you've got your vocals up front as lead as they should always have been...and sounding marvelous! Glad to have been a part of it.

Alan
You had wanted to redo the vocals for me but I know that you have been busy with work. I found a sweet spot on the EQ and it seemed to take care of the problem. I really liked what you did with this tune and it deserved a repost. Thanks for the visit and it's been a pleasure having you contribute on macjams all these years.

I appreciate you dropping by to listen. This is a bit of a satire on my expense. A lot of truth in these words.

Killer opening, John. The dry, upfront drums and guitar really give the song its punch. Fine guitar work as always. Nice bass and keys work, too. Alan's backing vocals add real class. Thanks for the D/L. Regards, Peter.

Not only is this a fun, zippy rocker on which both you and Alan shine, I love your idea for iGlasses ;-) and that you are teaching your children not to be like you.

Remix
The danger of remixes is always sonic disparities. I was listening to your track without having read the blurb and my impressions where 1. guitar a tad too sharp and thin, 2. drums a tad too dull, 3. vocals perfectly natural sounding. In total it sounds like 3 (four if you count the very deep bass, but it probably comes with the drum) soundspaces.

So, while I like the song as such, I don't think the mix really comes together.

Great crunchy guitar just grabs you at the start ... bass is nice and deep in the mix ... I like the catchy tune and melodic progression ... really sounds good when the backing vocals come in. I think the drums sound a bit flat in the mix and the vocals maybe a bit dry ... otherwise a well written song.
