Got lots of funk....
On it the harmonics lock it up If I were you I'd leave out the crazzy parts
and invest some time into the verses and the harmonic parts....
The mad drums work in a live setting but recording it right and making
it believable will be tricky, just to get the dynamics clearly defined...
But it's your thing do it like you want....Love the Bass though....

awesome
thanks! I recorded over the drums DI and just gotta love those Jazz Bass single coils... Obviously i suck at recording drums, but I think with a few more weeks of experimentation will help a lot.

Cool demo
I've never tried it but I understand that recording drums well is very difficult. As you say, more experimentation should help a lot. The whole thing is an interesting D&B jazz fusion piece.

Thanks
Richard. It'll be interesting to hear some different micing techniques I've been thinking of lately, I think that's the biggest problem in this one. And that I can't EQ a kick.....=(

It all depends...
On how many mic's you use, less is more in a small room...
Did that for many years in studios all over the world, recording
Guitars and Drums, big rooms and little rooms...
From.. Rock Bands to Jazz Bands and everything in between....

Let me know if you need some help....

Yeah it seems very difficult
to really sculpt the sound! You say less is more, as in 3-4 mics? Right now I had an idea involving 7 mics!

Of course
I'd love to hear about your experience with small room micing, anything is helpful

The Rush
The start of something pretty cool here. Bass sounds cool - the drums need to be reigned in a bit, but the playing works well for this style of music. Enjoyed!

That Bass!
Fabulous idea, you don't hear this kind of thing often. Both of you are very talented! Definitely a fun listen, nice job. As others have said though, the drums are definitely out there. They could work, but they're just a bit too grating after a while.

hmm
Ok I think I see what you're saying. Do you mean the actual beat or the EQ? Thanks for taking the time to comment!

thanks
alackbass, those single coils really sound great! I think were going to try re-recording it with less mics for a more basic approach. Thanks for commenting.

The Rush
I really like the bass and the drums are played well ... at first I found it odd the bass was panned left .... when you mix it maybe put the bass and kick more centre and spread the drums out around it ... awesome playing and a nice live on the floor sound.

Thanks
gadzooks. I actually already edited the song slightly where the kick, snare, and bass are all centered. Its really a good place for them to be. This is a really fun song to play live, thanks for the comment!

That's some killer bass; drums are good, too

Two instruments, and a complete song, alright!

Hey everyone! I love throwing up some ideas on here and seeing what you all think of them. I recently got Pro Tools 10, (very hard to figure it out on your own), and so far it sounds pretty good. All drum recordings are done in about a 10' x 10' carp... [see more]
