Description
Just a song that rolls along offering a touch of enthusiasm for life to those who've been feeling a little lost of late. I just now said to a friend that I don't know where these kind of lyrics come from or what authority I have for writing them, but maybe... just maybe, they are aimed at ME from my subconscious; anyway I'll share them here with you too, M

Lyrics
Hold On (lyrics)

Hold on, hold, hold on, if life just keeps on pulling you down,
Hold on, hold, hold on, life’s like a sea, you gotta swim or you drown,

Be strong, be strong, be strong, try to find the place where you belong,
Be strong, be strong, be strong, if your feelin’ out of tune, then just sing a new song.

Chorus.
Keep goin’ and-a forge ahead, life never was a feather-bed,
There will be ups, there will be downs,
So wear a smile, never a frown,
Head down, forge ahead, keep pushin’ like I said,
Take a look at the longer view,
There will be somethin‘ waitin’ there for you.

Go on , Go on, go on, the future’s in your own hands; in your hands,
Go on , Go on, go on, don’t just toss a coin to see how it lands,

Come on, come on, come on, pull together, you can make it through,

Repeat chorus and ad lib verses to the end.

Hold On
I love the way this rolls along ... the opening guitar had me thinking it would be a country tune ... it does have country elements with the banjo? in the background. Love the melody. Your chord progressions are catchy.
The vocals with the harmonies are very interesting ... I like them!
Very original tune yet there is something very comforting about it ... for me anyway.
Cheers

Glad you
liked it Stan...yes it does have a kind of a 'country' feel to it, but it also reminds me a bit of of the 70's ,when the popular ad for Coke was, 'I'd like to teach the world to sing' and it had that all come together thing going on, which I suppose provides the 'comforting feel you mention. The chords were the result of me trying to get away from the usual chord 'patterns' I use. This one goes verse, E/E7/C7/E and the chorus just C7/Am/F/G/G7 back to E.
Anyway, thanks for listening and the favourable words, cheers M

Love the bounciness!
Man, this is excellent work Maurice! Great beat and that call and answer with you and your collective voices as backup really add strongly to this song. How did you get that "flange" kind of feel to the backup singing? That's just neat as heck! Ya sound great by the way (always nice to hear a spoken interlude done so personably) and as usual, I'm never disappointed when I stop by your songs Maurice. Loved this entirely--and thanks for sharing. Full marks.... Michael

So pleased
with your response to this Michael. A lot of cut and paste and altering of pitch on tracks (the higher, the more feminine), with some treble added for the backing to give a slight difference in tone. I really wanted to do one of those Ink Spots bass voices for the spoken bit, but it would have meant doing yet another track, so I settled for doing a 'mid-Atlantic' accent Ha ha, so I'm glad you approve of that too. Thank you once again for your welcome encouragement, all the best Maurice

This one has been on the boil for longer than any I've done and yet the chords were so simple (maybe that's why)m but I was quite pleased with the results apart from the 'mid-Atlantic' accent.... any way glad you approve, cheers M

Uplifting lyrics. The layered vocals and chord changes have a unique and very cool sound. The spoken word section adds to a retro vibe.

what authority
I think it comes from within, great chord changes very classic, your sounding a bit more scruffy but I like it :)

Thanks
a lot Tim; yes it does come from within... glad you like the changes, though they're very simple; just not the usual ones. It's going back down to the E from the C7/ F, makes it sound like a key change I think. Regarding the scruffy part (Ha ha ha) I did comb my hair and brush my teeth, but I wanted to get the sound of a lot of friends just gathered together singing, so I didn't worry excessively about timings etc, so as to give that impression, Cheers M

Effective effects
Love those effected voices .. they add such an unusual ambiance to the over presentation .. imparting a special feeling to the soundtrack. And I also like how you take a break from the singing and go into a speaking section .. which adds a different kind of texture to the song.

Nice positive vibe, Maurice. The almost detuned quality to the vocals seemed a bit disconcerting to me at the start but it actually grew on me and gives the song a unique, memorable character. A fine piece of writing and production. Thanks, Peter.

Western style
Nice bouncy tune and your inimitable vocal performance make this an instantly pleasant experience. Your optimism is so evident in the lyrics as well as the music itself. Very nice. I love that "Go on, go on..." vocalization. I've never heard exactly that kind of thing before, so it came as a delightful surprise.
(My one nit: it is probably my hearing, but the band seems just a bit out of tune all the way through. Maybe you planned it that way. Don't know. Or there's something (the organ?) that is just a bit too swirly.)

I'm very
pleased with your comments Paul, though I'll be the first to admit that I find it very hard to harmonise with myself, so on some I used the 'pitch' slider in GB to give variation. Then again I wanted the sound of just a group of people marching along and singing in a casual way. Also there's a synth as well as the organ, so maybe there was a bit of a clash in sounds; the synth was a bit more 'harsh than i'd intended, but too late to change after I posted here. Thank you once again Paul for your input and interest....always appreciated, regards M

Hold on indeed
I've just been listening to four or five of your songs and they're all great. But I don't understand why you hide your voice behind all kinds of funny filters. I'm pretty sure every single one of these songs would be a lot better if you ket your real voice come forward unfiltered. And I'm not talking a bit of reverb or echo, that's ok and often needed. But I think you should try a lot more of the direct approach one finds towards 04:00 in this song

Well first of all PHBB
thank you for dropping by to listen these songs; I'm flattered by your comments and visits to other songs. Now regarding the 'filters' you mention; these were because I wanted a 'group' sort of sound here and in other songs, maybe harmony in the chorus to fill it out or bring variation to the song. Of course I've done plenty songs with little or no echo or filter, so it's just that I like to vary the sound and the genre, as you will have noticed LOL. In the part you mentioned I'm actually speaking, which doesn't take as much breath or effort as singing the words. Thank you though for your interest; I'm just sorry my reply is so late after your comment, regards M
