Description
I've been taking some free music production and sound design classes on Coursera (www.coursera.com) which I strongly recommend and have helped me tremendously! Have a long way to go in terms of learning better arranging, how to conceptualize a song from start to finish, sound design, mastering, etc.. This 'song' is just another experimental step on the road to becoming a better producer.

conceptualize
I'd be interested in knowing how you see the overall structure of this track. Somewhere in the 4th minute there is a cute little solo-ish passage, but before that I'm not sure where you're going. Cool sounds, but it seems to go between rhythmic chords and breakdown and repeat...

yup
Thanks for listening and commenting! :) That's a tough thing for me. I am still learning how to conceptualize a song before trying to produce it... right now my newbie workflow is to just build things that sound alright to me as they come, but I'm finding that I end up with exactly what you described: sort of a hodgepodge of ideas that doesn't really tie together the way it should in a cohesive track. Definitely going to try to focus more on the concept and arrangement in the future to try and improve on that front. Any tips would be more than welcome if you've ever had any similar issues.

Best,

thanks
Thank you! Very much appreciate your time and feedback.

By the way, Blount was gorgeous; I don't usually consider Native American flute as my cup of tea, but it was very emotionally evocative for me. If anyone else is reading this and has not heard it, strongly recommend this song by VicDiesel: http://www.macjams.com/song/76204 (Blount)

I agree with Vic on several points.
You surely know how to mix but the total scheme of the song could be improved. I'm an oldschool songwriter, and I think in terms of verse, chorus, bridge , etc. And let's not forget: melody. A lot of electronic music is too repetitive for me, I miss structure, or a change in key or a counterpoint.
Like Vic said, a melody line over your chords could do miracles :-)
much enjoyed though!

expansion
Clean, soothing. Like putting your ear canal through a car wash. You also separate each musical idea nicely and give each voice its space.

I like how the mix is full but not overwhelming and the balance favors melody/chords over the beat, which works really well here. And given that this thankfully is no 'dance' track, I don't mind the pause in the middle, before you merge into a different version of the same track, even if the silence could be a little less pronounced. Enjoyed it!
