JCPenney Dream Couch

Description
This was a tough one because I broach a difficult subject from a time before my wife and I were married. Normally I'm not that personal with my material but I felt it was necessary in this instance. It's basically me telling my daughter about the couch I bought for my wife when we first got married. I wanted to make sure the listener - my daughter, in particular - to understand the couch was more than just a material item. 9 months after were married and 8.75 months after we got the couch my daughter comes along (so much for waiting a few years to have kids) and it gets destroyed within 3 years. But even though it represented SO much to my wife and I, we didn't really care that it got destroyed.

particledots and Michael2 suggested some incredible tips on this track (a flourish a la the radio static in Jimmy Eat World's "Roller Queen") but I didn't have the time to include it. However, their input is still very appreciated.

Lyrics
Just married in the Fall of 2003
One bedroom in Ahwatukee.
Settle in maybe save a little money
Before we starts ourselves a family.

I've skipped ahead maybe just a bit too far.
There was this time when your mom was sad.
Nothing in the world can break your heart
Like seeing someone you love like that.
When I'd visit we'd drive to this home store.
I know it's weird, but that's what you do.
Looking at the stuff college students can't afford.
That's when I said, "I'll buy that for you".

Cause you're everything I'll ever need.
You're everything.
Just thought that you should know
You're what I'm living for.
You're everything.

Fast forward to the summer of 04
A sweet addition to a humble house.
Mama time, snug-fest, daddy is a dinosaur
We tore apart JCPenney Dream Couch.
That couch meant a lot to your mother
And I'll admit it meant the same to me.
But it's the people we love that really matter.
And to mom and dad, honey, you are the dream.

You're everything we'll ever need
You're everything.
Just thought that you should know
You're what we're living for.
You're everything.

Fine sounding track. Immediately likeable. Real solidity and punch in the drums and some really nice space around the guitars. Great tone, too. Quality vocal work. An all round good song. Thanks, Peter.

Couch
You had me at the verby guitar intro.

Cool back story and righteous, heartfelt lyric. Cool use of language and imagery. Love the line "skipped ahead maybe just a bit too far. Sing along chorus works a treat.

Acoustic middle eight is fab. One arrangement thought: maybe that could've come earlier, then repeat at end as outro.
