Description
This is track one on the RPM Challenge CD "Duets" that I produced in February. The series of duets all had me restricting my self to the use of the Sequential Circuits Pro-One synth - and my collaborators had to choose one instrument to work with as well.

From the liner notes:
Frequent collaborator Bryn Corbett aka Particledots sent me manipulated electric piano tracks and I a returned a mix and stems with multiple Pro-One tracks from which he created the final mix. He wields a mean blender.

The entire CD can be found here: http://alonetone.com/bud/playlists/duets

At first,
I was thinking that it sounded ominous but the piano kind of overrides that sense. Still, I think this calls for vigilance, because you never know what's out there. Thanks, guys.

Light, pleasant sounds on top of some darker ones make for an interesting piece. I enjoyed listening to this, Kevin!

Piano...
is so gentle within this rather dark mix of sub-atomic particles you've got going here, Bud. With the right visual, this could be a powerful backdrop to something very suspenseful. I particularly like the measured tempo through which this unfolds. Nice.

some nice tones
its good how you have the drone go in and out like that, plus the low bass and high piano rounds it out nice!

Get your Freq on
Makes me want to get a Pro-One.
I loved the sounds on it.
Great piece of music.
Cheap comparison is NIN meets Brian Eno on the Apollo LP.
Really good mix and use of sounds.
Cool track

I love your
cheap comparison. Very flattered - and with PD in the mix there will always be a bit of Eno. There are new analog synths modeled after the Pro-One that are worth exploring. But who has the money? Just glad this one still works.

Wow - thanks Richard
You actually checked out the CD. The kudos go to my collaborators - I was just the guy with one old funky synth messing around. Take this track for instance. Bryn made this what it is with his excellent chops.

I think I said on one of your previous RPM pieces
that is was brilliant of you, not only in your choice of collaborators but also in limiting yourself to that "old, funky synth".

Very atmospheric piece, Bryn and Kevin. Quite intriguing. The mix really draws you in. It seems to evoke a dialogue with the listener that is elemental. A couple of listens still had me trying to put into words what I felt. Glad I took the journey. Regards to both of you, Peter.

Bryn and I had fun with this
he did the post and created the atmosphere. Our original tracks were all slowed down and everything was manipulated in ways that he would have to explain.

The Pro-One is known for its bass quality
it was used heavily in the early to mid eighties on a tone of recordings paired with an 808 or similar drum machine. Both machines were the core of my old 4 track studio at that time. Thanks for dropping by.

just my thing
moving into the void with this as a back ground accompaniment. How many instruments on this? It sounds like an intro to something else? Whatever, it works well.

I only played my Pro-One and
Bryn used a midi keyboard to control an electric piano voice. The rest is post production effects. This was a virtual Duet. I agree that sounds like an intro 0 and as such it is the first of ten tracks on the CD "Duets". http://alonetone.com/bud/playlists/duets

Awful lot of sound and space....
...for something with these limitations...

It's absolute ear candy in the headphones. Clean, clear and deep. It has that synthy hint of things metallic, but there's also a very organic feel to it...Kind of the way that Geiger's sets for Alien combined the mechanical and organic...
