The Problem With Love These Days (Lennon714 cover)

Description
Occasionally at Macjams a song comes along that I cannot stop humming. Craig Thomas (tempie) and Bob Dorsey (Five Extra Arms) are particularly guilty of doing this. Alec (Relic_67) does it pretty much all the time.
I tend to write and record my own songs, eschewing covers cos A: it's harder for a hack like me to work them out and B: the guys always do such bang up jobs on their own.
But...

This tune, by the one and only Eric Van Ausdal, just wouldn't let up. It stayed in my head, going round and round to the point that I just had to record it. I initially intended to do a fairly straight acoustic copy of the song, but it just wasn't working for me. So, I thought I'd record it as if it was one of my own, using my own setup for guitars and vox. I'm actually pretty pleased with how it turned out.
A tribute to you all, but especially you Eric. I hope I haven't bent it too far out of shape.

I really like the full bore attack you went for with this, Paddy. Some really inspired guitar work. You have managed to keep the essential elements of the song that draw people to it but add your own, unique, stamp. Liking it a lot. Regards, Peter.

Hey! I know this song!
I love the change you did on the rhythm guitar. The lead is killer. Slight changes in note selection and the razor sharp picking accentuate that part better than I could have. It's an honor hearing you do one of my tunes. AND you posted it on my birthday!

I grew up in the 70's and 80's in the south of the UK in an Irish family. I had always loved music but was never given an opportunity to explore making it for myself. About 10 years ago I bought an acoustic guitar and began strumming in earnest. To d... [see more]
