SUSTAIN w/Michael2

Description
This is track seven on the RPM Challenge CD "Duets" that I produced in February. The series of duets all had me restricting my self to the use of the Sequential Circuits Pro-One synth - and my collaborators had to choose one instrument to work with as well.

For this song I sent Michael2 a track I created on the Pro-One - including the percussion. He responded with manipulated vocals. Everything Michael does is so musical - even in this context.

The entire CD can be found here: http://alonetone.com/bud/playlists/duets

Okay.
This sounds like part of the soundtrack from a movie about space exploration. I envision this as what played while dream images were shown: the kind of stuff an astronaut who was in "suspended animation" or deep sleep would experience. You two are magic. Thanks.

lost highway
I'm looking out the windscreen of a car. It's night. It's raining. The wipers dance from side to side and beams of light stream into the car as we pass the streetlights and then dark and then light and then dark. Cars pass us going in the other direction. Where are we going? Who knows?
Anyway, enough of the creative writing. Great collar from you two.
I was just thinking the other day that Michael2 had gone off the radar.
So this is what he's been up to.
Cool stuff
cheers

Michael has his hands full with kids and work
I was lucky enough to snag him for this project. He's so great to work with and so musical in any context.

Intense, hypnotic track. The affected, swirling vocals sounds at times like an imam calling out in a post industrial wilderness. Interesting journey. Regards, Peter.

Heart song...
The beat keeps the blood flowing from top to bottom of this track and those mystical vocals and the bent guitars and slithering things set up an ethereal world inhabited by chanting spirits whose messsage will only become clear if one has the courage to be enveloped by their swirling massasge. Ok. So maybe that's a little too poetic, but there DOES seem to be a narrative here. This is a track with legs.

A lot of what you are hearing
is Michael's manipulated voice - there are no guitars here. Thanks as always for the enthusiastic support.

mighty trippy
although psychedelic music has never completely gone away, it seems to be making a bit of a resurgence these days which I am enjoying immensely... this one seems a little bit in that vein ,on the more electronic side. love it!

Edgy music. That thudding heartbeat in the background is sort of scary. It's waiting for the right movie to come along. Good one!

I agree with Char.
Feels like high drama. Wild FX on this. Can't tell if that's vox, or talkbox. Whatever it is it's haunting. Could be aliens! Lots of tension. Love the guitar screams (I think) in the background. It's like a soundtrack for a bad dream. I mean that in a good way. Good protrayal of dramatic tension.

the guitar screams are my vocals. the talkbox thing is me singing through the Leslie speaker emulation in Logic.

Swell
Man I love the 'percussion' that little shuffle/scratch thing. I could listen to that all day. The vocals are killer. I felt that I knew what he was saying although intellectually I have no idea. Musical subtext or something. I love that descending siren thing at 1:54.

B-side Gold
Here's the scene - needle drops in the groove of a B-side single from a psychedelic 45rpm record I bought in a used record store earlier some afternoon. I hadn't heard of the group, but I'd recalled the A-side single from the radio some summer's past, and bought it.

So, being curious, after hearing the A-side, I flip it over and hear this. And think... wow. So *this* is what they get up to when the record label isn't looking over their shoulder. Very cool! Forget the A-side... THIS is where the magic is.

Bud, I swear you could weave music banging two rocks together. If you haven't already. Full thumbs up to you and Michael2 for this.
