Stylish.
Yep, nicely orchestrated and subtly but definitely menacing, just right for the character theme in the soundtrack of a western. Judging by the photo that's what it's intended for, so I have to say it's a bulls-eye if I got your intentions right.

I'm
lucky I don't shoot myself in the foot let alone hit a bulls-eye. Thanks Fire_Angel.

This takes me
back to the Saturday afternoon Western's we used to get over here, where there were marauders crossing the borders in the desert areas..... Cowboys versus Mexicans....... yes I can hear that menacing that Fire_Angel hears too..... always enjoy your music Charlie, regards M

Burt
had some kind of presence didn't he?
I admired the actor and the man.
Thanks so much Char.

VALDEZ
True to the genre, Charles. A touch of menace under the blazing hot sun. Well done. Regards, Peter.

I take it Valdez is coming...
It's Burt Lancaster! You know, I got to meet him when he was filming "Atlantic City" back in my early teens (of course, I was born and raised in Atlantic City too). There's a wonderful and disarming sense of danger mingled with a feeling of determination coursing through this--I felt that part coming from the catchy rhythmic background with the former developing from the strings (which sound so good Charlie!) I love Westerns (a movie genre I developed an affection for a bit later in life) and your piece is a very affectionate homage to the memorable music scores many of those great movies offered. Full marks--you never fail! Hope you're doing well, thanks for sharing--and take good care now, Michael

Valdez is on his way.
Wow that was pretty cool meeting Burt. Atlantic City was probably his last great film. I was always drawn to westerns and loved their scores. I'm glad you caught and like this Michael.
Cheers,
Charlie

Aaahhh
I just HAD to listen to one more piece before calling it a night. This is great (I should have known). If I give you the comments you richly deserve I'll be up too late and grumpy in the morning. :) So I'll be back. Hang in,
Doug

I'm back
Charlie you have this way with syncopation that is unlike anyone else I have come across (and that is a GOOD thing), and you are able to make it work in whatever setting you choose. For example here I get a ride on horseback through the desert sun. It's a western but not a classic western that has already been done to death. Moreover, you are able to take this consistent style to many new areas where clearly westerns are part of your repertoire.

Your play between the strings and brass is spot on and as with many of your 'snapshots of time' this one doesn't need to go anywhere in particular in terms of a formal structure to be really effective. The minimalist harmonic progressions are also powerful in that they work beautifully within the confines you have set.

Are some of the brass samples with mutes by any chance? Cool effect.

Now that I think of it, I suspect your use of syncopation was an unconscious influence in The Asteroid (my piece from a long while ago now).

Your work always interests and engages me Charlie and I'm thankful that you post in a place where I can find your music.

All the best my friend,
Doug

I'm thankful
that you're around to give such careful and thoughtful listens Doug. Your Astroid piece may go back a few months but it's still vivid in my mind.

I think we all have an influence on each other. Sometimes overt other less so but still there.

I hope there's new work coming from you soon my friend which I always look forward to.
As always thanks Doug.
Cheers,
Charlie
