Description
All I could think was: "I've been dumped by far better than you...but maybe you're right!"
This is a bit of a metaphor.. but not all that far from the truth.
One of the few songs where words came easily for me, and due to the nature of the material, felt my voice and minimal production skills might fit. Recorded a few years back, and written lots of years back.

Lyrics
THE BENDER

Well, last night I was off on a bender
Some cheap booze, just getting low on hope
and glancing down, I saw your letter
A lousy piece of paper sent my whole world up in smoke

Now it's half what you said
and half how you said it
all those things, so biting and so cruel
you put me down, so close to the bottom
like I'm a jealous half-hearted fool
chorus:
How can I make you see
There's nothing to lose from loving me
I'm just a man, doin' what I can, to find some sanity
And it's a gosh-darn awful disgrace, when you can't say it to my face
all you can do, is write a line or two that says:
Dear John
My patience has ended.
I'm sick and tired - so uninspired.. by you
So.. I'm gonna be heading up north to Denver, in a Greyhound, with a man I met on a used car parking lot
and it was signed:
"See ya later, SUCKER!,
Peggy Sue
Chorus:
How can I make you see
There's nothing to lose from loving me
I'm just a man, doing what I can, to find some sanity
And it's a gosh-darn awful disgrace, when you can't say it to my face
all you can do, is write a line or two that says:
"Dear John.." "Dear John.."
and sign it: See ya later
SUCKER!
Peggy Sue

Ok..its Country :)
I feel bad..must be country! Not my genre but you're dead on. Real story and well sung/spoken. It does have an intimacy and immediacy.

The bender
The lyrics are entertaining, as is the vocal delivery of them and the minimal backing. Sometimes the guitars in the solo seem a little at odds with each other, but overall the performance works well! Much enjoyed.

Man
you don't need any other skills than those you have to wring the meaning out of the lyric and the feeling out of the melody in quite the way that you have and those are quite sublime. Excellent (though sad) story, wonderfully told. Thanks!

I'm Relieved...
that you were able to push the tissues aside, Peter. Now, in addition to greatly admiring your way with this thing called creating music, I can add that your a man whose self-control abilities are commendable. lol Thanks for listening! Greg

B-B-B-Bender
Eh, if you don't have a pop filter when you record, put a pretty stiff low shelving eq on your vocals when you mix....

Nice song otherwise.

I do have one!
I get carried away, I guess, and the popping things happen. I get lazy and hold the mike.. sans pop filter ..no way to do it!
Thanks for listening, commenting and your take!

So true! This experience was about 2/3 of my life ago, so I feel I can say with some authenticity:
Peggy, wherever you are, Thanks!
