I'm always impressed by your electronic posts. There's always an artistic quality that takes them beyond the usual synth based pieces. In this one I think it's the piano Really great harmonic depth in those chord voicings.

I like this one Vic ... I always admire someone who can jump genres ... the piano is quite lovely in this .... there is a softness to the recording or I should say warm .... even the synths sound analogue. The drums get to me a bit .... they sound the same all the way through but that aside it's well done.

Piano
Thanks. I'm really happy with the PianoTeq piano. In this case it's an old Erard through a subtle phaser and echo effect. PianoTeq is a completely modeled piano: no samples. You can hear it on its own here: http://www.macjams.com/song/69920

Great mix
Nice piece - good use of counter rhythms. The synth half way through is a nice transition - vocal like. Warm analog feel to match the piano.

Counter rhythms
You know, I'm really a bit embarrassed with how many somewhat expensive synths I have that get almost no use (MetaSynth. Ouch!). Anyway, the drums are Stylus RMX, which can randomly shuffle its samples. So I let it run, bounced it, and selected a number of interesting passages.

Nice sounding track, Vic. Lots of depth in the low synth and the piano floats nicely over the top. To me, the drums seem to be a bit stylistically out of step with the rest of the arrangement? The piece also meanders along quite nicely but perhaps doesn't have the resolution that I was expecting? Thanks for sharing it with us. regards, Peter.

Liking the drums
for a start. Some occasional stutters on the kit, but maybe its just my ears. Lovely sounds - especially like it when the synth comes in. Very nice, atmospheric post Vic.

The piano
is so clear and I liked the bouncy quality. I was sometimes distracted from the piano by the drums but the piece is expressive and upbeat. Thanks.

It's the drums...
There's just something so cool about the way the drums loop on this thing... Some rhythms are so cool they almost become melodic all on their own...

atmospheric
i like the retro feel the analog synth adds. it would work with modern samples just as well, but it has more character this way.

love the uneven hi-hat and slow bass attack of the bass drum. even the chords are pleasantly unusual and give the piece an asymmetrical feel, if that makes any sense. only the synth lead from 1:32-2:17 i didn't like so much. of course once the piano opens up the space again, it's even more enjoyable. really interesting track!

and to imagine what it would sound like with one of your flutes or recorders...

Recorders
I contemplated using a recorder somewhere, but the key of C# minor is not very recorderistic.

Asymmetrical: yes that makes sense. I'm deliberately putting bass hits and other elements not on downbeats to give it a floating feel. You're the first one to remark on it.

I knew
this song reminded me of something. see if you can find the 'Broadway Project's track The Third Stream somewhere. it's an interesting group and something confused me when i first heard this track, since only the overall distant mix and feel of the drums, not the actual music sounded familiar.

I like the variety in the sounds that you incorporate. Gentle melody without being sugary. Very pleasant!

Fun to listen to this, and ponder talented people's comments and replies. 'Asymmetrical-ness,' being an example.

This is very modern sounding to me so I'm not really qualified to comment but nevertheless I did enjoy it very much. Very nice clear separation.

appreciate
