Description
I wrote this ditty back on 2007 but never got around to recording 'til now. Used to play it out and it was fun to pick on. Not really Bluegrass, more of a Jimmie Rogers style Country Blues.

Wandering John
Thanks for this tune. The tradition is all here, Jimmie Rogers, yah, maybe some Hank... the famous Hay Ride vibe John. You got the pulse.

Roots
Yeah, that's me on mando, both lead and rhythm "chop". It serves the function as the snare drum in a lot of bluegrass. Thanks for the listen, Stan

Wandering blues
I like the flow of this - rolls along beautifully. Traditional feel to the melody and chord changes which work well. Neat solos. Warm vocal. Fine work, John.

Nice blend of styles, John. It has such an authentic ring to it. Classy picking and some nice sympathy between the guitar and the mandolin. You welcoming vocals top things off. Much enjoyed. Regards, Peter.

Excellent sound John
I really like the "real" sound you have put together here. "Real" in terms of the staging, but also in terms of "real" country blues. Love the picking and singing. Traditional tune with modern attention to detail in the sound. Very nice!

John Prine-ish. Man I love how you just effortlessly do this kind of tune. Not hiding behind anything. So jealous.

Relaxed and in the pocket vibe...
Deceptively tight, too. The phrasing on your singing and the phrasing on the guitar and mandolin playing are just right...

Nice clean recording and mix. Nothing cluttered, nothing empty... Nice upright sounding bass, too... Could go with maybe a dB more of the bass, but it's the perfect pulse...
johnwhitehead said 1432 days ago (April 24th, 2013)
Vibe
Thanks, Ed. I'm trying to more conscious of phrasing. It's such an important tool. Especially if you're not a virtuoso player. So much can be accomplished with the right phrasing--often the notes you leave out.
Thanks for the listen and always thoughtful comments

What a delightful song
I love the way this is written (form) and the arrangement is perfect for the style of the number. Your pickin' is so delightful and so perfectly accurate and controlled. And your voice is so well-suited for delivering this kind of narrative, too. The whole thing just feels so comfortable that I couldn't help myself but give it a second listen right away.

Top notch
very well recorded John... and performed. Very clear- and I liked the stereo field placement/inter-play with the mandolin and guitar. Tidy little country/blues number, quite light and jolly for wanderin' blues- gives a sense of enjoying the freedom of the road.

guitar and mando excellently played and recorded.
That must be one sweet guitar if it sounds that good in person.
Singing also very impressive, it all exudes a natural-sounding musicality and joyful vibe. applause!

Oh Yeah
Don't think I have heard your music before. That's my loss. This is great, my cup of tea for sure. I love new grass, folk and this is definitely in that genre. We have a hero in common, Doc Watson. I would have never played guitar if it wasn't for Doc. What an inspiration. You have obviously learned your lessons well.
