Someone Is Jealous Of You

Description
recently i bought a you rock guitar, a midi controller. plugged into logic and bam i could play the synths with it. i was only able to use it in part, the break section, since most of the music was done.

i was watching a 6 part documentary on the '80's and there was a part about the ME generation, that got me to thinking for the lyrics

Lyrics
Someone Is Jealous Of You

someone is watching your back
when you're not looking
or expecting
someone pretends to know it all
spend so much time
convincing

someone wants to be better than you
someone is jealous of you
someone thinks there better than you
someone is jealous of you

a remnant from the me generation
it's all for me
or nothing
watching the peacocks on parade
flaunt to be seen
it's their thing

someone wants to be better than you
someone is jealous of you
someone thinks there better than you
someone is jealous of you

someone is nailing your back
talking about you
criticising
someone pretends to know it all
spend so much time
convincing

someone wants to be better than you
someone is jealous of you
someone thinks there better than you
someone is jealous of you

Love the heavy guitar work. Your stuff is always so polished. The synth interlude is very cool. Congratulation on the MIDI controller. A new door has opened.

How do you like the YouRock Guitar? I have one too I think it is wonderful and a nice way to play some expressive synths.

Really enjoy this piece.

i do like the fact that it tracks nicely and that it connects to logic so well, i can't complain. besides my keyboard knowledge is somewhat limited, so this should help. plus it is a lot of fun to play with

I think a lot of people are jealous of your guitar playing and songwriting ability. :) Flawless and tasty guitar parts as usual, but I also wonder what kind of sound will come out when you fully utilize that midi guitar synth. Cheers.

Ahh ... new toy. I'm envious. To be able to play synth but play it like the instrument you know best ..... The guitars sound great. I do like that interlude section with the synth and guitars .... nice tune.

I'll watch
your future posts with the midi guitar with great interest Vic. Great song. I sense a slight move away from traditional VH style, and I really like it. You have a very individual style of playing, singing and writing. I have no idea how you keep the songs coming so quick and so well produced.
A really good listen.
Cheers from Oz,

Jealous
i like the chugging rhythm. i have no idea what a you rock guitar is. all i could think of are those paper guitars they sell in toy stores. i know that's not what you're talking about but now i want one of those. your stuff to me all has a 80's new wave/prog vibe, reminds me of bowie, but on this one I really like the melodic lead, it's catchy and expressive, and I like the mellow tone on your vocals. Very cool. DL'd.

you rock is a midi controller, play it like a guitar, but it controls the synths in logic, garageband, etc.

i really had to work it on getting a appropriate vocal style on the verses. i can't even count how many ways i tried it before settling on what i finally got

You Rock indeed
Classic riffing Vic.

What a sound you get.

The YRG is good but needs a bit of patience and practice to get it tracking well.

Great work Vic..

Cheers

actually i do believe it was you that brought it to my attention. i've been pretty good on tracking. subconsciously i add vibrato on notes like a regular guitar neck... like that's going to work

Well, that's one of my ongoing fantasies...
...The whole YouRock thing. I used to have a Suzuki XG-1m that could do the MIDI conversion, and it was a lot of fun.

I like the synthy chimey bits in the middle, and I like the meaty rhythm guitar tone you're using here. Nice crackin' snare you've got going, too.

I'd vote for adding in a bit of bass drum and bass guitar weight, at least on my listening set-up...
Vic Holman said 1400 days ago (April 22nd, 2013)

i think this you rock guitar is pretty much the same fretboard wise. the plug and play usb connection is a bonus. the onboard sounds are not great. however plugged into logic works great

i thought the chugging would be a good way to keep this grounded. using the midi guitar for the synth made it easy since it is a odd chord inversions. easier then transposing it to a real keyboard at least

Really like the opening guitar/bass riffing. Interesting structure to the verses, gives the song a unique feel. Really clear mix, too. There is plenty of space round the guitars. Good lyrics and vocal. Classy song, Vic. Thanks, Peter.

Wonderful song and performance
Is it just me, or could Lennon and McCartney have included this on one of their albums? I mean that as a very large compliment to you, Vic. But the thing you do that distinguishes your music is the stellar guitar tracks and how you lay them in the mix so that your vocal remains clear above them. This is such a great song in so many ways. It is no wonder that so many are listening in. You have definitely delivered the goods here.

I can't quite pin point it
But this takes me back to 5th grade. I'm no sure who it reminds me of. I'm really digging the song, I love the synth effect but to me the guitar really shines. The melody, the message and especially the vocals sound fantastic. Very impressed, you keep coming up with more.
