Description
Haven’t done one of these for a while. It just…happened. Don’t look for the written score anywhere. I couldn’t play it if I had to actually look at the notes.

Improvisation
1. To invent, compose, or perform with little or no preparation.
2. To play or sing (music) extemporaneously, especially by inventing variations on a melody or creating new melodies in accordance with a set progression of chords.
3. To make or provide from available materials
4. To invent, compose, or perform something extemporaneously.
5. To make do with whatever materials are at hand.

Amazing playing.
There's both subtlety and ferocity in this, and lots of tremendous playing, yet you've made it sound effortless. Although it may not be consciously used it also takes a tremendous amount of knowledge to improvise like this. Thanks for the music lesson.

re:' I couldn’t play it if I had to actually look at the notes'
I've come to anticipate your playing will be remarkable; and that the quality of sound will be fine. This piece really does have the feel of of you 'letting unfurl,' rather than 'directing' what's going to happen. Listening to this process is inspiring!

Being George Sands
Like sitting under Chopin's piano. Wow. Thrilling and elegant. Passionate and well crafted. Expressive and contained. Simply marvelous!

you forgot one item:
6. Play like a genius and impress everyone listening.

Improvisation in general can be quite revealing, as it gives an unaltered look into a musician's creative treasure chest. What I hear in this piece is a tremendous creative intensity and the controlled poise to extend it to the piano keys. Together they can produce music that is obviously more spontaneous, but also more joyful, being that the mind is a servant in the process and doesn't have time to complicate or control it.

I meant to just say 'very nice' or 'excellent' but this is really quite stunning to say the least.

Cool how you get so many variants but hold it close enough together to sound planned and practiced. Very nice stuff. Thanks.

I find it very easy
to picture you in a sound booth watching the rough cut of a new movie, playing whatever you feel as the images flash by, or in an old silent-movie house playing for the patrons.
I have no idea what was in your mind as you improvised this but I got definite images at different times while listening.
You ARE "da man" ;-)

What a human can do...
Or maybe, what one human can do. Quite amazing with all the super fast decisions you have to make in an improv like this, even if I understand that your great experience helps. I hear no hesitation at all, as if it had been rehearsed for months or years. So varied and full of expressive emotions. Thank you, maestro!

Take care,
Henrik

I am a big fan of improvisation. Sounds flow distinctively from the heart and soul. Notes faster than you think but relies on on that part of the brain that stores all that has been learned ... the perfect melding of left and right. Beautifully performed ... your fingers did a wonderful dance over those keys.
