Description
My wife and kids are huge Doctor Who fans. I like the show just fine, but they're way in to it. So when I was sitting at the piano working on this melody I got, "Sister Bellini floats through time". I changed it to Cappelli because it's easier to sing, but kept the space-time traveling nun element. I like the idea that the Vatican dispatches Time Lord-style nuns to fight the evil that creeps though the cracks of God's universe. The "boo-hoo" element of this song is that I wanted more time to put in psychedelic elements, but... boo hoo. That's the 4th Doctor at the end describing the famous "...bigger on the inside" element to the Tardis.

Lyrics
Sister Cappelli floats through time
In a coffin made of flowers
Searching for cracks in God's design
Fighting the evil she encounters
Where the wild oats are sewn
From the Great Salt Lake to Rome
When the go-getters get gone
She'll find 'em.

Sister Cappelli understands
She'll not win our world's affection
Though the danger is enhanced
She's glad to give protection
The good sister's at the helm
Blasting through celestial realms
Where evil overwhelms
She'll find 'em.

Sister Cappelli's not afraid
She's powered by her purpose
Compassion and love will be displayed
Even to those who try to hurt us
But those who dare abuse
To collapse or to confuse
She will let her fire loose.
She'll find 'em.

I think this might be my favorite of all your recent posts. You have a unique and instantly recognizable voice. It works great here Love the production and arrangement. Nice changes and melody!

Form and content
Ok, I get none of the references.... Or almost.

So what I'm hearing is a song with a decided 60s/70s or retro vibe (think Tears for Fears channeling the Beatles), very well executed, with a great feel.

And what I'm reading is somewhat futuristic (even if Dr Who seems rather retro-tech from what I understand). And to me form and content don't quite go together.

Lovely song though.

Tears for Fears
Funny you mention that, because I listened to about 4 or 5 tracks to get a feel for the arrangement. One of those songs was "Sowing the Seeds of Love" by Tears for Fears. That's a great point about the form and content. Even with the retro feel of the show I can see there could be a disconnect. As the Doctor says, "People assume time is a strict progression of cause to effect. But actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a ball of wibbly wobbly, timey wimey... er... stuff" Thanks for your input!

Where Evil Overwhelms
It's crazy how different your writing styles are from songs about historical heroes (the Liar Joseph Strauss and Thomas Kincade) to songs based on TV series (like this song and your brilliant writing with Heroin_Marys - You're Driving Me Mad, But I'm Not Crazy). Then there are the tunes about historical heroes from a TV series (Caravaggio)...

Whichever frame of mind you're in when you're writing, your creative story telling always impresses me. Yeah, you sing like a Beach Boy or a Beatle or a Weazel, granted, but you write with the insight of one of the guys at the brainstorming session of these fine TV series that we all know. That probably does't make much sense, but neither does the fact that you want me to take a photo of a sandwich when I dine with alackbass.

You can play rhythm guitar and do back up vox for me any day.

Huh?

Love it! D/L'd and faved for proof to the Next Generation that I was here when it all happened.

Cool song - my first thought was how Beatle-ish your style is, but I think Vic D got it right - I can definitely hear Tears for Fears in there too. Enjoyed!

I enjoyed
the retro sound. The content is obscure unless you're into kitchy Sci-Fi with whacky Time Lords in Tardises. Thanks.

Us too!
Still got 2 episodes of Season 7 to go. Tom Baker and David Tennant are our fav Drs. Anyways... if Beatles-ish was the goal, you have seriously succeeded... Lennon by name.. ;) What's not to like about this- love it. (ooh there lots of Sisterhoods: the cat nuns/nurses- the Pompei crew). Nice snippits of Romana & Sara Jane Smith (+Tom) at the end. Interesting concept/theme.

Very Beatles in style, or perhaps a little later McCartney (Uncle Albert?), which means it is excellent. I like the voices near the end and the different arrangement to end the song. Vocal is very engaging and the lyrics fun. Much enjoyed!

Virtuosity
Eric this song just sums up your abilities. It never strays into pastiche, the musicianship is incredible. The arrangement simple yet the orchestration takes it higher. Your vox are to die for, the subject matter off the wall, the use of samples is great. Magnificent.
Oh and that guitar outro - yeah baby!

Forgot to mention
Kudos for using Tom Baker's Doctor rather than any of those new post 2005 imposters!

uh oh
My daughter can't stop talking about David Tennant. I do think it's weird that the past 2 get the most love, but then again it's a lot to get through. The oldies will get their day. Now Moffat's Sherlock is my jam. Can't wait for Season 3... and I'm not generally a TV fan.
