Description
I decided to skip "Seventy-Nine" for the moment. "Eighty" is a simple two-part piano number which expands my collection "By The Numbers." Classical in style...if you like that sort of thing.
You can find the score (and a bunch of other numbers here:

Very interesting.
A collection of influences that ought to fail, yet it works very very well. A baroque opening, classical influences, ballet, and even a hint of jazz in the chords at some points. To tie all that together without making a mess is an achievement, to make this fine piece from it all is amazing. The recently displayed subtlety in your playing is on show again, and most welcome too! Thanks for putting it up here.

Hi Paul
I like the lilting baroque style that I hear in this. Full of your usual dexterity and exquisite touch. A joyful piece. Thanks for the download! Cheers. Philip.

This entire collection is brilliant. Love the low note at 1:16. And the melody that blossoms at 1:25 is wonderful. I'd call it one of your best. But your work is so consistently excellent I don't think I could pick out one as the best.

You start with such a simple idea, but it keeps going in directions I wasn't expecting, but which are always a pleasure to hear. Is the quotation of "Dies Irae" at 0:45" intentional? Whether or not it is, it works well! Once again, you show great mastery of your musical materials. Bravo!

Dies Irae
I was wondering who'd catch that deliberate reference, but figured YOU would if you stopped by. Rachmaninoff I'm decidedly not, but I couldn't help but think of his nearly obsessive quotation of the "death song" in an awful lot of his music. It is just a little humorous conceit in my own. Thanks for noticing, Clark.

Another piece that I would love to hear you play live, Paul. To a select band of MJ'ers, of course, in a lovely chamber setting, perhaps with a glass of Louis Roederer :-) Beautiful. Thanks, Peter.

This has
a slight Arabic lilt at the very opening ....I can imagine this as a trickle of a spring on a hill and then getting wider and fuller as it flows beautifully downward turning into a stream .... lovely meandering sense of motion Paul, regards M

I wonder
if Johann Sebastian turned out his inventions with as much ease as you seemingly do Paul.
A light, airy and thoroughly delightful work.

You may
be a little baroque but this is a money maker. Very lively and it has a soothing mood. Enjoyed. Thanks.

This has a fun turn after the more 'traditionally' classical intro as you get into mid-piece and the feel is more modern in tonality and spirit. I love the contrast. I see you come back to a more contrapuntal style again then finish with rich bass tones. I think of this work as sounding clean somehow, not in the production sense but rather in the allowance for spaces between the tones. There is a joy and tenderness that seem to weave together here too which makes the work all the richer.

Thank you for the download Paul. Be well,
Doug
