Description
written this year [2013] April - just poking a little fun at this great man. Artwork to follow as soon as I've finished it.

Glossary of terms used in this song-

'jackie' - a general term term used to describe a 'boy racer' type of being, very often found wearing a baseball hat and a little chain around the neck.

'blong' - a musical term used to describe a style of playing where a chord is applied on each and every beat of the song, - eg. blong blong blong blong. = one bar of 4/4.Mostly favored by pianists.

'sneezing high hats' - more or less self explanatory but mostly found in karaoke backing tracks where the high hat is often to far up in the mix.

Lyrics
wanna be like Gary Barlow [written April/May 2013]
Chorus
I wanna be like Gary Barlow ‘ee by gum’ I do,
Be a singer make some records show them that it’s true -
That I’m a ‘Jackie’ and a good one you will soon find out,
That I’m the greatest of them all, it’s never been in doubt.
Repeat Chorus
Verse. Music of the ‘blong’ persuasion - no one really cares,
Drum machines with sneezing high hats –squeaks and tinny snares,
Whoops-a-daisy wow is me I’m gonna have my say-
About that karaoke world that never goes away.

About that karaoke world that never goes away [X4]
Verse. Over quantize everything, exit human feel,
They say I’m the main attraction that will be the deal,
I will help to push the fading quality control,
Further back into it’s shell – no more rock and roll.
Repeat Chorus
‘musical interlude- piano-forte
Repeat Chorus [with stops]

thank you
Glad you liked it, hardly any compression used on this so it's not a very loud recording because when I tried beefing it up i didn't like the way it sounded so very little has been done to it.

eebygum..... I should have known there wouldn't be spaces in that word, still not too bad for a Welshman.

Pleased that you liked it and appreciative of the comment. Many thanks.

have a little patience
I only had to see the title and it made me laugh and then the track gets going and surpasses my expectations.
Your productions are getting a lot more polished and inventive...not that they weren't inventive before.
And then the lounge piano at the middle break is great.
I was once in the same room as Mr. Barlow.
The great man was over seeing one of his protoge's at a venue.
She never did make the big time whereas Gary just goes from strength to strength.
Anyway, love it.
cheers

You were once in the same room as Gary Barlow! wow - that must have been like seeing Beethoven - but seriously - thanks for the comments, I'm glad you liked it and that it brought you some amusement. I read somewhere that Gary is supposed to be the greatest pop icon ever... now that's what I call a sweeping statement and yet I notice in a few of the comments about this piece on here and icompositions several have had to 'google' the great man. Right I'm off now Brendan to google another band I've just discovered called the Beatles.

I have
no idea who this Gary Barlow is. The song is a lot of fun. I especially like your rapid percussion and your almost spoken delivery of the very cute lyrics. Thanks.

Char hello
thanks for listening, Gary Barlow was a member of the 'boy band' -Take That - and to be truthful, if my life depended on it I couldn't name one record that they ever made. The rapid percussion was partly due to the bass line which was almost entirely sixteenths throughout. I'm glad you enjoyed it Char, my music is rarely serious. Thanks again.

Yep - you got the idea, and 'boy bands' the term is a contradiction is it not. Surely the basic requirement of ANY type of band is that it should include at least one instrument as opposed to a backing track playing thru a PA or something. Bloody absolute and undiluted sodding nonsense - if you went back a few decades and told them what was passing for music these days they'd just laugh in your face. Thanks again - I'm pleased you liked it and sorry for the rant. J.

Music to make you smile!
Great fun. At my son's wedding, I plan on singing Joe Cocker's "You Can Leave Your Hat ON." I wanna be like Joe Cocker, but the sentiment is similar.

I totally dig the electric piano solo, btw. Hip and humorous, way cool.

Best of luck at the wedding, we used to play the Joe Cocker arrangement of the 'Hat' song with my little trio a few years ago - always went down well.

Patrica Girl
A 'Jackie' is a boy racer type person, I remember thinking when I first saw a picture of 'Take That'[which Gary Barlow was in] - I remember thinking that they all looked like 'boy racers' - I have warmed a little to Robbie Williams [another member] as I think he has developed into a more believable artist but generally I am no fan of this sort of music. The collective noun for 'jackies' is 'pride' in case you're interested - eg -a pride of jackies - Thank you for listening Patricia. J.
