Description
Number 84 is the second in a little 3-part suite. 83 was number one and I will post No. 85 next week to complete the trio. Each is very simple in scoring, mostly just 2 distinct parts playing against each other. I am finding that the more I strip away the excess, the closer I get to real music. I hope you will enjoy this selection and that you will look forward to the other two movements as well.
If you are interested, you can find the printed score(s) at my website here:

Stripping of excess..
Oh, you said it. Bare essence, pure power. This one has a most lovely, gently mournful progression, that leavens in the final minute to hopeful... Your emotive and tender playing style is so inviting, so warm. I just feel tension draining from me. If you have a whole CD of this stuff, I am so buying it right now. No higher compliment can I offer; I want to pay you for your music.

Very nice. I looked at the score and there were fewer notes than I imagined. Every note and phrase is effective and as usual played with your musical touch. Looking forward to number 85. Thanks.

Beautiful music, beautiful playing.
I like the mood change in this and the supreme gentleness in the playing, especially towards the end. Really lovely and I downloaded it both for listening pleasure and study; I'll fetch that score shortly no doubt of it.

It might be the 2nd part
but it's not 2nd best!

Thoughtful and quite wonderful.

I look forward to be able to play all 3 parts together

Your piano pieces are always so beautiful and well composed - what always stands out for me about them is how effortless your playing style feels. Well done - enjoyed!

beautifully pensive
A simple but lovely melody and I agree the test of a good piece is, if it can be stripped back and still sound good..... I think you pass that test with each score Paul..... this is so tender, regards M

A Melancholy Waltz
Your search has brought you down to the bare essentials of emotional communication. As ever, your touch is sublime and we become like putty in your hands. Your sense of timing in communicating is also a forte in your performances. You are, in a pair of words, the Rubato King.

Love that cadence at the end of the mid-section which, after the build up, is a nice surprise to take us back to the minor key, if only for a while. The last segment is like breeze over gently rolling water until the last few chords. It's funny how my mind filled in a low bass tonic note to finish the piece. Again a nice surprise and the Less is More approach paying artistic dividends.

Thanks for the download Paul! I'm looking forward to 85.

84 is so divisible
Always such grace to your playing. For some reason, this sounded like a fantasy on Feed The Birds, from Mary Poppins, played in a Peter Nero style. Took me back. It levitates in loveliness. Such a great feel. The variations fly over the horizon gently, leaving us all nourished. Well done! Thanks for sharing it here.

Another lovely and soulful piece of music, Paul. These musical transcriptions of your mind, heart and soul are a constant source of awe and enjoyment. Beautiful stuff. ;)

This one
has a kind of Scandinavian melancholy to it, first section anyway, but then comes lighter, more sunny parts as well. And I too agree that less is more in this case. But then I guess you could even play a C note a hundred times in a row and making it sound like music ;-)

Thanks for the copy and looking forward to no 85!

Take care,
Henke

The second with it's lovely contrasting feel and sad aura compliments the first so well. Love that unexpected change at 1:10 -is that what they call a 'picardy third' - so enjoyable Paul.
