Oh, How You Loved Me

Description
This is a song about my off and on again walk with God since childhood - but the story will be familiar for many. As children, we come into this world without preconceived notions and easily relate to our spiritual side. Later, the beautiful colors of this world attract us and we forget our creator. Eventually, the colors fade, and we are left to choose our paths.

I recently got some near field monitors that were on Craig's list - what a difference. So exciting and so much to learn about recording at home.

Lyrics
Where do I start to love you?
When do the praises begin?
Hear my breath and my heart beat
My face in my hands

You were there in my innocence
You were the secret place
You were the mystery that fed me
when life was black and white

Chorus

Oh, how you loved me
Oh, how you cared
Then I walked away, one day,
to the color

The path was sweet with sorrow
The light was blue and gold
My eyes dance and they cried
without you long ago

Colors turned to grey
My heart turned to stone
I was an island in the ocean
I reached out for you there

Chorus

Oh,how you loved me
Oh, how you cared
when I was unlovely
you stayed with me there

Where do I start to love you, Lord?
When do the praises begin?
I could sing till my breath stops
and sing all over again

Gentle and reverent
A slight folk style in your straightforward interpretation of this song. The simplicity of the setting is what makes your message come through all the stronger. A lovely listen Bradford.

Very nicely done
lovely guitar and vocals.

Colours do indeed fade and you've caught that very well.

Oh, How You Loved Me
Gentle, reflective song, Brad. The guitar backer is well arranged and your vocals are warm and engaging. The monitors should help things along a lot. Thanks for the post. Regards, Peter.

I'm learning to play up on the neck on one guitar if I'm using two guitars in the mix. Actually, the Milk Carton Kids (check out NPR's "Tiny Desk Concerts" and/or youtube) is the sound I'm going for, except I don't think I'll ever be able to play that fast! Love playing duets with monitors that sound like a live instrument. Thanks for your comments Peter!

Beautiful
Full of warm sentiment and introspection. It is so easy to be distracted and leave the path. Fortunately it's easy to find again if you can shut out the background. The song says it all. Very well composed and performed. Mix sounds good to me. Thanks.

Yes, shutting out the background roar of the information age is a challenge. I really appreciate your insight Andrew and thank you for your comments.

Perfect accompaniment...
...for such beautiful lyrics: unencumbered by anything that would distract from the wonderful message. Your vocal delivery is sincere and direct and I imagine that anyone who'd hear this live would be enthralled by the presentation as well as the message itself. I think I may have also said earlier that boosting your vocal volume would be a big plus when performing this number. The message is so important that it demands to be heard. Sorry to harp on that, but...
Such a perfectly peaceful and hopeful song with which to end my day. Thank you.

Thanks Paul
Your comments are always thoughtful and I am pleased to have contributed some peace to your day! Yes, you have mentioned the vocals in earlier posts and I am experimenting with volumes, mic proximity and vocal wind (a problem of mine - which I think I can fix with a filter). In fact, I have now just begun to look at the sound waves on the tracks and can see I need to learn more about them. Thanks so much Paul.

Oh, How You Loved Me
Just love it, a superb stand alone performance and song that really does need NO outside help from anywhere. I am reminded of some of the old records I have by Georgia Tom from way way back when he was going through his Gospel period.

You know I have you down as one of my favorite artists which means I should be informed of your new releases but despite this I wasn't this time! Anyway - beautifully sung and played.

Wow....I love this. The guitars are accomplished and perfectly spaced and your vocal delivery is almost conversational being so relaxed and easy. Excellent recording. Loved the last sustained 'oh's.....added a tiny variety to bring the whole thing home. Really great song.
