The Fourth Mood

Description
This is more of a messing-about experiment than anything else so keep that in mind.

I haven't written anything in C# Minor for a while so this was done to put that right. It uses a lot of fourths. I was just trying them out and in order to get used to the way they sound I thought I'd write a tune that really emphasises them, so it's a slightly odd-ball sound.

The image is a playing-around CG creation of mine, again made when I was just messing about so it goes well with the music.

Always happy to share some fun.
Yep, had to make this as soon as the idea came to me. It took a lot of experimenting on the keyboard to get something that hangs together, but I may write that way again sometime.

I wanted to say thank you, then I was a bunch of other people said thank you, which made me wonder what causes that kind of comment? I guess thank you means I am grateful i heard it, so thank you!

Fun to make, fun to listen to?
I'm sure that doesn't always follow but it seems to work often enough to encourage a lot of MacJammers to have fun. Thanks for letting me know.

The Fourth Mood
Interesting piece - a lot less organic sounding than some of your other works - this one is much more eclectic in nature. Interesting note choices and patterns - this is definitely a more intellectual piece, but enjoyable! thanks!

It's a study, a sketch if you like.
Part of the idea was to try and learn something about the way fourths can be used, so I guess there was some extra mental effort going in. It proved to be fun but quite hard work to write this because of the emphasis on one type of interval rather than the way most music just flows from a mood or a feeling or a melodic idea. Anyway, thanks for noticing!

The Forth Mood
Abstract form, intricate and precise key striking are what catches my ear on this piece. You almost seem to be toying with the composition; It sounds easy for you, which is a sure sign of a talented and creative musical mind. Very cool.

Thanks.
Playing around and yet at the same time working quite hard to finish this. It's really a sketch I guess, something written to learn something and there will be more of those. Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for letting me know.

Thanks for that comment.
I went and listened to some Mussorgsky online to find out what you meant. He seems to have had a habit of using unorthodox chords, which is something I've been accused of heh heh. Can't help it, that's the way my brain selects them. Lots of rhythm in his works too. Lots to discover there and I don't think I've heard any of his stuff before so thanks for the prompt. Glad you enjoyed this.

Autumn is near
But this happy summer tune (and a blue sky outside) chased it away for yet another day. Really cool stuff (nonetheless ;-)

So, thanks from me as well :-)

Take care,
Henke

Glad to bring a smile to your face!
Thanks, it was good to be making music again and in spite of the fact that it was hard work finishing this it was also fun. So if it's cheering for you to listen to that's a bonus for both of us!

Messing around...
...is often the pathway to the most interesting inventions. I really like the neo-classical feeling of this piano solo. You are quite clever in mixing up those fast runs with a variety of rhythmic passages that give such interest to your work. I hope you have written this little invention down. It would be nice to see the score if you did, and also to preserve the performance in hardcopy so that others could perform it, too.

Thanks, I'll email you the score later.
It's in GarageBand so it's easy enough to print the score as a PDF. I'd love to hear what you do with it if you decide to play it too, the different interpretation might teach me something. Anyway thanks for listening and taking the time to comment.

Unusual, but delightful
The planing 4ths add interest and dimension. Just outside the box enough to be compelling without being weird. Just unconventional, which is nothing but goodness. Love the triplet runs near the end!!!

Thanks.
Thinking outside the box is what I do whether I like it or not sometimes. It used to cause me trouble as often as anything, but it is becoming a source of creativity in several areas of my life. Glad you enjoyed this little result and thanks for letting me know.

left/right
Ok, since you're epxerimenting i'll feel free to comment.

After a promising opening his piece feels to me like the gap between the two hands is too large in many places. The parts don't really come together. Occasionally you have chords in the left hand that I suspect will not work In Real Life. It might help if the right hand supported its melody with some chords.

A nice mess!
Really like this, I don't have anything profound to say, but I love those playful & light runs against the more restrained lower chords.

I wish I could just mess about like this
The left hand seems to maintain a formal structure which lets the right hand go a little bonkers without the whole thing falling apart.

It works!

Cheers
