Description
The economy in Freeport, Grand Bahama, has been in the dumps forever. It's sad to see people begging on the street in a town that used to have it so good. So, for "freefall" if you read "Freeport" you get the idea.

Lyrics
Freefall

A man stands on the corner
He's feeding all the birds
He's singing all the latest
He doesn't know the words

He wears a shiny coatsuit
He's got a squeaky voice
They say that he went crazy
I say he had no choice

In freefall

The windows used to scream out
The money you could save
Now they have all gone silent
They're like an open grave

One day a prince will come
He'll wave a wand
And all the pain will go away
Until that day the sun will shine, the rain will fall
And we will pay and pay

In freefall

Interesting back story. I read the lyrics first. They are very good. Succinct and insightful. The music is insistent and quite catchy, in a weird sort of way. All the little extra "bits" really add to the character and quality of the arrangement. Unusual and very good. Thanks, Graham. Regards, Peter.

Relentlessness
is what I was after. The downward spiral just doesn't want to stop, hence the sort of marching/prancing beat. The eyebrows are there to keep the listener amused as the whole ghastly thing progresses. Thank you very much for listening to my tale of woe!

Happy to fill up your disk
I had my doubts about this one, as the subject matter is so grim, but finished it anyway to see what other people thought. So thanks for the compliments, and for "Yearbook."

How nice
of you to say that, Karen. I've spent most of this summer working on my GB skills and trying to compose proper songs (which doesn't really explain THIS one), but I'm happy to know that you like my stuff.

Thank you, Scott.
I forgot to run this through the Honda Testing System, so I hope the bass isn't too high and that you can hear the vocals.

Freeport in freefall
The temporary collapse of the tourism industry? The bridge expresses a fanciful wish. I hope a real solution can be found. The arrangement and melody sit on the divide of light and dark. I suppose it's easy to lapse into a dark, hopeless sounding arrangement, given the sad topic, but you resist that, and straddle an uneasy line. The music is engaging, and the mix sounds great.

Let's hope it's temporary
I'm glad it sounds OK. I've turned the bass down to a whisper. It turns itself back up in the mastering process somehow. It's always good to hear from you, Les.

I like it. Good song.

(Do the child's sing-song voices under "one day a prince will come" suggest the naiveness of this wishful thinking?)

Hey, Sam!
Good to see you, man. I think "Doxey Fields" is funner. I'm working on another economy - based tune as I type, and hope to post it this weekend. I'll PM you to see how you're doing in a bit. Meanwhile, thanks for your support, and you were right about the high pass filter - I now have a clue as to what it is!

Hey, Philip!
You get clusters of interest on MJ, punctuated with periods of nothing. No sooner do I finish messaging Sam than you show up. I'm so happy you enjoyed it. The inspiration is so sad, but what else can one do?

Where are the Blockheads ?
This could really do with the Ian Drury treatment.......a slightly gravelly cockerney accent would go "dahn a treat"....not, of course that there is anything wrong with this rendition might I add !

PS love the art .....that looks like a terminal freefall to me ....ouch !

I think it's the bass
that sounds a bit Blockheadish. Also, you don't hear words like "squeaky" outside of Ian Dury and Bonzos songs. I saw Ian Dury once - an odd combination of intimidation and entertainment. Thanks for your comments, Jarv.

mix of reggae and chugging boogie. I like it when people mix up the genres a bit - touch of pink floyd and the beatles in there too. Very nice.

The Fixx!
I bought most of The Fixx albums as they came out. They had a lot of hits as Tina Turner's backing band too. And I saw Split Enz, who did a fabulous spoons solo at the end of the show. And that Lennon bloke had an effect too! thanks for your interest, Alimar.

made me go back and listen again to how you opened the tune. Clever development throughout, good clear sounds on everything, some aural breathing room too. Enjoyed!

I had to check!
I remembered that it started fairly suddenly, but couldn't remember the ending. So after relistening to my own composition I can tell you it's faux Crim (think "Frame by Frame"). Anyway, this tune has grown on me for some reason. I was a bit wary of posting it initially. Thanks for listening, and do what you can to get Sam back full - time. He's an MJ star.
