Exposed [hour or improv challenge]

Description
I was trying to do the 1 hour country challenge, thinking I knew country better than techno. Not sure if that was the right tack. When the hour was up, I decided this also qualifies for the Improv challenge because only the drums are loops. I really played the bass line for 2" 47' in one take and then the chords in one take and then made a few tries with different instruments for something country to go on top. That is where I realized I may be out of my depth. The electric piano is also one take. No time for time fixing in one hour, this is all you get. Oh, I did do a fade in and had the drums quickly fade out. As for the title, this song exposes all my weaknesses, but it was an interesting exercise.

Endless possibilities...
...for improvisation. This has a very comfortable feel to it just as it is, that bass line chugging through with such ease and your jazz riffs on the keyboard brightening up the landscape in such a delightful way. I can hear a solo (flute?) spinning out on top of all of this, too. As I said: endless possibilities. Seems like a very worthy use of 1 hour. More jazz, I think, than country or techno. Nice, Bill.

I have to agree that it is more jazz than country. Thanks for pointing out the possibilities.

Who's to say what's country? Love a bit of electric piano improvisation. You absolutely rose to the challenge.

Dang...
You're the first and you might have just put me out of the challenge with this amazing thing!

Ya I'm done I think. I think I'll sit back and listen this one out! Nicely done!

Retro cool
Background music at Jack Rabbit Slim's from Pulp Fiction... :) A gas, I enjoyed it a lot! Yeah, more jazz than country, but the two genres are inextricably linked together at the roots so who's to say?

Thanks for listening. I think on something like this I need to step back, the hour was not very long and there is a lot I would normally do before releasing a track.

You established a nice groove, Bill and the lead key work is pretty tasty. Nice bass line, too. Within the confines of the challenge, you have achieved wonders. Congratulations. Regards, Peter.

You are a brave man sir! I found this difficult to do, even using a pre-made tune! You have done it properly. Kudos.

Thanks, but where you used pre-made tunes, I used old standard chords. Hard to be too original in only 1 hour.

You hit your stride
at around the 1:09 mark. It's very nice how it all kind of opens up after that. (That said, that Bop riff at 0:37 is also pretty great!). I love those 'celestial' high notes at the end, too. Thanks for this.

Well listened. I actually have trouble listening to the first minute, an hour does not allow a lot of time for re takes and editing.

Strangely enough
I tried to do a "one hour" track while I was on holiday and couldn't work out if thinking time was part of the hour or whether I could do it in sections.....

This is great Bill.. Really nice playing. The electric piano really takes off. Maybe not country or techno but it's a still very good.

Nice bass line you laid down as well.

Cheers

Dick

Roll on down the, eh, dirtroad
Nice little two-step rhythm.

Next time add a synthesized steel guitar?

Hey, a synthesized steel guitar would be a lot more "country" . I did try some banjos but it is hard for me to "get" new instruments in less than an hour, so in desperation I went with what I knew.

You are really brave
These one hour challenges take a constitution of iron. You have to be willing to put yourself out there, kind of like in a live performance. I tried to do the latest one hour challenge and three hours in, I just threw up my hands. I wonder if you don't have to spend an hour planning how you will spend your hour, to even participate? Thank you for sharing and giving some insight into how you tackled the issues.

You have a very true perspective on the challenge. An hour is a lot shorter time that we think! Makes me appreciate the time everyone puts in on their songs.

Even jazz pianists get the blues
Your timing on the bass is solid Bill. I thought it was a loop. Electric piano vamping sounds like you had fun. I doubt I could do anything close to this in an hour. Nice job.
