Description
this song actually started from a simple, strummy ukelele song i had for some time. it was about a minute and half. i started playing around with it. expanding it out, flipped a few chords and picked instead of the strummy stuff.

the main objective here, was to record each track on the first take. however the main vocal was a 2nd take. so it's warts and all.

i also used logic x's drummer feature here.

in the end i found the uke was demanding to much attention, so quite a bit of it ended up be edited out. that happens

Lyrics
Everyone in Between

seems like a sad affair
when no one really cares
here we kill ourselves
with desperation in the air
who will save us from ourselves

the utopian dream
is just out of reach
for you and me
and every one in between

isolate the mind
from the destructive type
they filter under doors
for blood and blame
who will save them from themselves

the utopian dream
is just out of reach
for you and me
and every one in between

seems so superficial
through candy coated eyes

seems like a sad affair
when no one really cares
who will save them from themselves

nice
the bass line and the beefy bass tone are especially cool.
very good guitar soloing as always.

drummer is a new feature in logic. it samples pro drummers and you can tweek the drums in quite a few ways, plenty of options and styles. i was pretty surprised how it works. thanks again

I find that ukes
have so much more to give than just be simply strummed ....sounds like you found that too......this has a sort of Smiths vibe to it.....your music sounds so british rock more than US.......cool....

I'm going to have to take the step from GB to Logic ... drums are rockin' and the mix is real good Vic. I love when a uke is used outside the stereotype we all hear... I just wish you kept more of it in ... maybe end with it? Great guitar solo's , real strong ... this song just rocks.

i did have the uke going through the whole tune. when i was doing the final mix i kept paying attention more to the uke than anything else. however, it did cross my mind to use acoustics instead of the electrics

Recording on the first take, that is. Sadly, it rarely happens. Anyway, I enjoyed this very much and agree with your lyrics wholeheartedly. Thanks for posting.

Wow!
A great track Vic, love the big drums and I also think this is one of your best productions.
The first takes are usually the best too, you have performed and mixed together some great tracks. I think your new Logic X has inspired you to create a little masterpiece here. Really love the guitars, such great dynamics on the solo and rhythm parts.
Yes very much enjoyed Vic, one of your best.

at times i like to get the tracks down quickly, maybe a little loose as well. this is one of those type a songs that is best in a more simple state.

Don't need ukes
Just my narrow-minded opinion. Ukes are for TV commercials, and just get in the way of your always excellent guitar work. And yeah, you whipped those drums into good shape. Like it.

Sharp drums. Good drive to the song. I like all the guitars - the different tones are well integrated. Interesting lyrics. I like the way you end the song - the guitar lines are impressive. Excellent work, Vic!
Vic Holman said 1341 days ago (September 22nd, 2013)

i thought that adding a bit of a different ending would be a nice break from the rest of the song. and of course a chance to jam out a bit on the solo

ukulele rock....
a great one, Vic. These are some deep lyrics sung well with your to-be-expected great sound bed. I tend to like these kinds of questions and diagnoses of our dilemmas your lyrics pose. And I gotta say... nice clean guitar solo. Always a treat to listen.

society sure does seem to like self destruct. i wrote the lyrics several weeks ago when the syrian conflict was in crisis over the use of chemical warfare. but they work for many other reasons as well

The band is hot...
...on this one. Great choice to dump the uke in favor of something a little more in-your-face. Your guitar brige around 2:00 is sweet. I have come to really enjoy those sections in most of your songs because you include them with such great skill and precise placement. You are definitely on a roll with the hits because they just keep coming. Oh, I like that bass line that ends the last several bars of the tune. Cool.

i always like coming up with bridges. usually a song needs a contrast point to avoid to much repetition. in case here it was a good way to refocus the song a little different to the first half

Hardcore Ukelele
Really like the bass, and as always your solos make we want to find a guitar and practice soloing. This one is especially good. I love that melody that just hangs on. And two in this tune! Have to find a guitar...

i even thought about adding distortion to the uke. not many parts stayed in the mix. but it laid the groundwork for the song.

ok
this sounds ridiculous. I need to get Logic X. I don't even understand how the drums work (and I've watched a couple vids). they work perfectly with the guitars. do you pencil in stuff and then it jams on your original idea?

whatever. this is just great. your song writing is true to VH form, but your production has come so far (sorry I keep commenting on it instead of the song). i need to listen again, great track.

the drummer sounds good...i have got logic x too, but i keep finding myself switching back and forth from it to logic 9, so i havent really got to grips with drummer myself (doubt i ever will somehow)

A head-bobber!
Dang, man! This somehow brings me back to the great droning washes of the 80s, somewhere between the Psychedelic Furs' and Robert Fripp. Captures that bit of darkness combined with head-bobbing groove. Cool!
