Description
Just a quick one...

I was at Mallacoota in far eastern Victoria for a few days recently and one of the tall ships heading to Sydney for the naval centenary moored overnight off shore (see photo above - taken at quite a distance).

Anyway, I started thinking about what it would be like to be under sail on a tall ship, whilst I was noodling on the guitar, as is my want, and this emerged.

I finally got round to recording it yesterday. Logic X again. Same setup as my previous few songs.

Drop D tuning, Capo 2.

See what you think.

Peter :-)

Great sound Peter
And your playing isn't too shabby either. We missed the ships the day after, when they were in Eden. Out walking of course, and too tired to do anything else when the walk was over.
Cheers,
Neil

Organic
Thanks, Neil. Tall ships are such wonderful, organic structures. The acoustic guitar is a good instrument to capture their spirit. Glad you thought the sound was solid. I am happy with the setup I am using to capture my Maton at the moment. Talk soon, Peter.

If I were a sailor...
...and you were playing this kind of wonderful, evocative music on your guitar every night, I doubt I would ever want to go ashore. I love the descending line that finishes off so many of your cadences here. This is a delightful little number and you play it with such style and confidence. I only wish it were about twice the length. Very very nice improv.

A quick exit
Your words are very generous, Paul. It did come together as an improv pretty easily. I would probably have to have actually thought for a while to extend it beyond the 2 minute mark so I just went for the quick exit :-) Thanks, Peter.

But seriously...
Two minutes of pleasure is about 90 seconds longer than normal for me, Sam :-) I gotta get out in the fresh air more! But seriously, thanks for the kind words, man. Take care, Peter.

From humble beginnings...
Thanks, Philip. It started out more as a practice exercise in using Logic X but it ended up sounding good enough to let loose. See you tomorrow. Peter.

Thanks, Vic. Yes, I am finding a few new toys to play with in Logic and it does seem to produce a cleaner mix. Glad you liked the noodling. Regards, Peter.

Smell that salt air!
Your love of the ocean and it's beauty is quite apparent here and in several of your other pieces and I must say, having grown up by the Atlantic myself, it's uncanny how your music brings a cascade of images from the past during my life by that mighty ocean. Lovely and yes, the ending was a marvelous touch Peter. Thanks for doing this and for sharing your talent with us! Michael

Pretty tune, well played
Beautiful recording, too. This was clearly a trip on calm waters...

We had the chance to tour one of these once (can't remember where), and the thing that has stayed with me is how small and low everything is below decks. Quite a contrast to the expansive deck!

Sailing...Inspiring
In September, I was out on my friend's 30-foot sailer. When the wind hit 25 knots, we hit the closest port (Stonington, CT) only to have our jaws literally drop when a tall ship of just that magnitude (100 feet or more) docked not 6 feet away from us...these old-salt captains have an amazing mastery...

And...yes, I dig the tune. Photos like that are great inspiration...as is this tuneful quickie. L8r, Peter, strings await!
