Description
Life can be hard, or it can be sweet. But our time here is limited, so why not pay attention to the sweet stuff?

This song marks a new beginning for me. I've found my Chewy Caramel Center. My muse. I wrote this for her last week and poured it into GarageBand to hear a slightly fuller arrangement. To keep it warm, I used my archtop with flat-would strings, some bass and my voice (which is all I had laying around to get the words out). Pretty simple. (Note: Pardon the noise on the rhythm guitar...thought it was static but it might have been clipping. If you DL it and want the repaired version, LMK.)

Remember to brush your teeth or, as George said, "you'll have to have them all pulled out after the Savoy truffle."

Lyrics
Candy cane, pinwheel, cinnamon drops
banana split sundae with a cherry on top
milk chocolate, dark chocolate, peppermint bark
nothing in the world like your valentine heart
You're so delicious...

Strawberry shortcake, raspberry mousse
Czar Alexander's Charlotte Russe
lady-finger marscapone tiramisù
nothing in the world as sweet as you because
You're so delicious...

Hungry for something that couldn't be found,
I could have been bitter and melted down
but your sweet heart turned me around

Bear claw, beignet, lemon souffle
dulce de leche, gelato, sorbet
caramelized custard, creme brule,
nothing in the world could keep me away
You're so delicious...

Creme tangerine and Montélimar
no trifle, truffle, tort, or tart
pastries, confections or sugar art
none compare to your sweet heart
You're so delicious...

delicious
unexpected chord progressions really work. love the easy guitar and vocal delivery. kinda think it might work an octave up....but then you'd probably need a bag of helium to help.
love the outro noodling....and that little ping at the end is very sweet.

Croakely dokeley!
Thanks, Mr. Bloke. I tried singing the higher octave, but couldn't deliver the right Brooklyn fixie-pedaling hipster sound. Or the Fleet Foxes sound. I'd have capo'd it, but would have to come-up with a whole new set of diminished chord inversions, since I use the whole fretboard in this G-based tune. But with your range...I'd give you the tracks w/o my voice for you to redo anytime!

And so is this!
What a sweet (sorry ;-) love song and especially so without being syrupy. The somewhat Cohen-esque delivery is warm and intimate. And the rhymes are lovely ;-) Thanks for the listen.
I hope your Chewy Caramel Center enjoyed it. Cheers.

Right on!
When I was trying to get the vocal levels, hi-pass filter, etc., right, I was indeed thinking: Leonard Cohen. Thank you.

Sounds great my bro! One problem though....The photo makes me hungry and so do the words. I'm glad you went kind of "folksy" with this. I am so happy you're finally back on M/J. Keep up the good work. Luv ya~

Nice back porch feel to this, Bob. Nice sentiment in the lyrics, too. The archtop sounds great. Sweet, in fact :-) The chord progressions are a treat. Thanks, Peter.

Entertaining...
...glad to earn the listen and comment. As for the chord progression, I didn't know what the chords would be, but my head hears stuff I have to look up and figure out how to play, and this is what my head made me do!

Bobby Brady I ain't
Thanks, Neil. Your comments counterbalance Julian's suggestion (aka Hackneybloke, 1st comment at top). I actually recorded a vocal track at the higher octave and it sounded like Bobby Brady...on brown acid!

Nice!
I like that bridge a lot (great delivery on "turned me around"). Good noodling too: has a vaguely Garcia-esque looseness and pacing. Enjoyed!

Take me to the bridge
The beginning of the bridge is my favorite part, the Bm-to-E and etc. chords. I did use a bit of a Jerry thing esp. in the latter dare-I-say Afropop-inspired part...that walkdown from the frets. Also the looseness. Thanks!

My mouth is watering, but not just from the menu. This was a great idea for a song, and the music and melody were right on. I especially like the harmony. Must be a feel good song, cause that's how I feel now,...and hungry.

Feels good to be dug.
Thanks, Terry. I've been away so long, I forgot how good it feels to share, and be listened to. BTW the bass on this track is Ed's old Peavy, which be bequeathed to me before he went to the big concert hall in the sky. I miss that guy. Stripped down was indeed the goal.
Vic, thank you. My goal for my MJ "career v.2.0" is to keep it simple and try and work on songwriting. I've been hanging with a lot of friends who, unlike me, can play actual SONGS for people and remember the words...whereas I may have to resort to getting an iPad "teleprompter!" Good to be back here with you.

Sweet!
You know Bob, it's a pleasure for me to listen to songs like this that ask nothing but your time to listen and in return, remove you from all your problems as you do, and I could ask for nothing better than that. This really does have an invitingly warm appeal to it, from voice to instrumentation and how it was presented in the production of it was like a vividly colorful musical kaleidoscope that kept tickling my ears. I have a great deal of affection for this confection! Thanks for sharing it with us! Michael

Chewy Caramel Center
I'm glad I just finished a bowl of granola with strawberries, so I can listen to your song now (I take song lyrics very literally). I like how your singing sounds so sincere, you stopped fighting the temptation! The mix is great and the guitar solo around 1:45 almost sounds your fingers are a little sticky from the bear claw. Seriously though, I didn't hear the clipping, just a lot of sweet song. Enjoyed it!

Beating the temptation to overdo it?
You seem to have given it a very focused, accurate listen. I tried to sing without artifice; I've never re-done or reposted a tune--they're all just demos, why bother? But this one might need it for cleaner guitar and better vocal pitch. On that bear-claw solo, much of it was actually a double-note harmony, but got lost in the mix.
