Lyrics
Thank You

Some people's lives are wasting away
I grow more grateful every day

Look at the telly, look in the Grauniad
Catch all the news and views and it's all bad

Thank you for the gift of pollution
Thank you for the final solution
Thank you for the winter in spring
Thank you, Lord, for everything

Some people's lives are wasting away
I grow more grateful every day
(Read all the dirt about it)

(You know it makes sense)
(Don't you sit on the fence)

Thank you for the great gift of cancer
Thank you - now just tell us the answer

(Now let us prey)

Thank you

Glad you liked it.
I am pleased with the guitar on this one. (As in the playing. The guitar itself is sort of wretched.) I really need to get a decent mike, though! I wonder if my wife would like a new microphone for her birthday? Probably not.

You're mining
a great vein. This has the 'whimsical XTC' vibe I've come to expect, but there's a darker, Syd-era Floyd tinge in the 'look at the telly" bits. Plus, the message is bleak but the delivery isn't: a great tightwire act.

Blame Richard Thompson
I think Mr Thompson has the patent on sardonic lyrics plus catchy tunes. I listen to him, Pineapple Thief and Warren Zevon more than anyone else, so something must rub off. Cheers for listening.

I like the 60's
It was a time when singles ruled. The 70's was great for albums. The 80's? No idea. I'm happy to ally myself to the 60's though. Glad you liked it, Mr Holliday.

man, you got this songwriting craft down to the art it should be. lately, every time i listen to a post it has surpassed the last one in some form or another whether it be mix, instrumentally, vocally, or 'arrangementally'.
getting jealous!

From you, that's big praise
I thank you and Daugrin and llarion for helping me get the mix right. The rest - who knows? Years of pent - up rage? Years of exposure to Zevon? Anyroad, good to see you back and producing such fab stuff, Mr D. The place hasn't been the same without you.

Thank You
Really liking the lyrics. Let us prey... :-) A wry, satirical rage against the machine wrapped up in some really polished pop, Graham. The guitars are very good. As are the "innocent" 60's vocals. As others have mentioned - you are on a roll! Thanks, Peter.

I dunno what it is
but I can tell if something I do isn't going to be any good, so I take the music elsewhere or abandon it. This one, I knew what to do with it all the way, even when it took me from my original intentions. It sort of wrote itself, is what I'm saying. I also find that writing lyrics on top of existing music is easier than starting with the lyrics (which is how I started writing, when my pal Mark would feed me words). Strange that I would discover this so late on, but there you go. Isn't Life Strange? Thanks, Peter.

Dig it; flipping hilarious!
Rock it! Good one...thank YOU. Clean twangy strings, great treatment of the harmonies...supports your lead voice...well done all around. Dig that little lead walk down in the chorus (At 2:24 and etc.)...reminds me of the earlier, punkier XTC.

I tested this on Sam
and he liked the "descending staircase" guitar. I'm more chuffed with the introductory guitar. I'd like to do something with just guitar, bass , drums and vocals. I think it's somehow more powerful than multiples of the same. I'm happy you stopped, by, Bob.

Decisions, decisions.
You might be like me re: introductory measures. Sometimes you want to start sparse to let the song build; other times you want to hint at the "action" or peak so you can hook those looking for action from the get-go. Gotta make a choice...and you done good.

Like the driving bass and beat that drives this but the progression in the bridge/chorus is what really grabs me ... Nice guitar work ... well composed and performed tune ... I like the ending.........................thank you

Thank you
I like the pounding bass, the vocal harmonies, the guitar tones and the lyrics. That little descending line around 2:30 is cool, as is the clucky guitar around 3:30 forward. Good one, Graham!

All nicked from RT
There are any number of songs where Mr T uses those plucky sounds. "Crawl Back" and "You don't Say" spring to mind. Learn from the best, I say. Good on you for taking a listen, Philip.

Fine, fine piece. Heartbreaking, really. The guitar bits are really great. Synths in the background? Nice touch. Thematically, yes. I am going to crawl back in my bubble.

Yes!
I have nothing more I can add to what's already been said by your listeners Grahame, but definitely, this is most excellent stuff you're laying down here! This is so solidly well done, it's like clay in a very talented artist's hand. Outstanding!

Man...
Do I identify with this tune.

Reminds me a bit of XTC in the way it wonderfully drips with sarcasm. Nicely wrapped and delivered in a very catchy pop package. Definitely a DL!

Appreciate you sharing!

The 60s vibe some though and the overall sound is brilliant.

Love the song and the vocals.

Probably could add
a few extra verses after the US financial fiasco, although there's another song or three in that I'm sure. I always enjoy an ironic, topical song, and musically, this sounds great as well. Nice one!

Guitar works
seems to be the theme of the last 4 sings I've caught this am! Lots to twangy gutsy driving guitars... This is what I like about this tune! The guitar keeps me just listening on.

Nicely done!
