Lyrics
long shadows

long shadows are waiting for you outside
they'll follow you where ever you go
from the factory corridor
to the misunderstood

someone wants to guide you
someone wants to expose you
some will ignore you
it's a well known fact
curiosity killed the cat

long shadows creep across the street
stretching longer day after day
might of twisted white
bleaches the secrets away

someone wants to guide you
someone wants to expose you
some will ignore you
it's a well known fact
curiosity killed the cat

long shadows love to hide in the shade
they have their own devious ways
from the factory corridor
to the misunderstood

(la, la's)

Excellent. A bit Beatle-esque (always a good thing). Great arrangement. We can always count on you for some outstanding layering of guitars. The warm synth tones really fill things out and perfectly fit the mood of the tune. Awesome mix!

the beatle bits..... that was bound to happen sooner or later :-) i did have a acoustic in this originally but ended up removing it due to it filling in to many frequencies & making a few other parts not so noticable

tempo was the same, having no drums in the verse made a big difference of perception. cool how that can work.

Man really like the thump the bass gives in this and the chord changes right with the vox some top notch music Like the effect on your guitar when you sing long shadows like the da da das at the end !

i actually used the 5th string on my bass! the la la's at the end was originally ad libbed when i was recording the main vocal. i was about to delete it then thought 'oh, what the hell', and added 3 more vocal tracks to it

It's guitar tone day!
Just came over from Steve Laing's latest and loved hearing his usual exceptional tones - now I'm here listening to yours.
Very British sounding - Kinks/Beatles to be precise - tune Vic. I don't know how you've kept producing such great stuff, so often, and for so long.
Another great track for your CV.
Cheers,
Neil

This has a kinda spooky halloween-like vibe to me. Also a bit of a snippet of a rock-opera kinda vibe as well. Great tempo changes!

A multi-layered masterpiece
Brilliant arrangement and production.

Great lyrics and a rather haunting ambiance. Lovely twists and turns in the progression and the textures.

Fine work Mr Holman!

there's some very cool pacing in this tune--alternating from loose to steady. i need to incorporate some of that. lead guitar is pretty standout in this one too. i'm really starting to note the tones you seem to get so naturally.

i use logics amp and effect sims almost all the time. it's a nice way to work with the guitar tones. i continue shaping them so they work well with each other right up to the final mix

the theremin tone was from logics retro synth with a little tweeking. shorter days make for longer shadows..... like 12 feet flat

Long Shadows
Interesting tune, and fits the season - and not just Halloween, but fall: "long shadows creep across the street stretching longer day after day". That synth sound in the beginning is perfectly eerie, and there is a definite Beatles-ish feel to that chorus chord progression. Enjoyed my friend - nice work!

originally i was going to do a october song, but i think i may already have when i started writing lyrics. so i changed it a bit. the shadows across the street line came from watching the shadows from the window at work

but you can do it. the song is all the same tempo. what i did was do the verses in 6/4 time, other parts in 4/4. not having the drums in the verses also gave the illusion of a different tempo change

grah3am said 1508 days ago (October 26th, 2013)
Aha!
I have a tune that dodges between 4/4 and 3/4. I find the metronome very distracting, but I'm not so good at keeping time myself, so I'll have to record the three sections separately and stitch them together in the master. I wonder if the new free GB does what I want it to do?
