Adrift Near Andromeda (SRC13)

Description
After nearly 6 months of not going anywhere near my keyboard, in September I PM'd Drakonis asking about the possibility of the Space Race Challenge this year. He replied "All systems go!" so I did. This is one of several results: a piece of soundtrack from a sci-fi film, although it didn't necessarily start that way.

The first 30 seconds (and throughout) is the Alchemy synth Hollow Sun preset. This track, after playing through several times, inspired the rest. The next sounds you hear come from a GB Orchestra Deep Bass track, then a GB Circuit Dialog track, then some Serena Swirl and Tonga Surround melodic bits. The whole thing paints, for me, quite a vivid sonic picture which led to the title above. The image is a hubble shot of the Andromeda galaxy. Sit back and enjoy, and thank your lucky stars that you are NOT Adrift Near Andromeda.

Timeless
When I listen to this, I feel timeless, it is like I'm spinning around in space, with a feeling of freedom, just enjoying the nice journey in a timeless world..Peace.

Timeless
It seems to me that timeless is a good thing, and a feeling of freedom is very cool. Now, we just have to keep you from spinning around ;-)

Thanks Kenta. Peace to you too.

Closing In...
Nice job capturing the feeling of closing in on our celestial neighbor; it's both beautiful and a bit scary. Imagine the music when our two galaxies finally collide! Hey, maybe that should be the premise of your next space tune. I enjoyed this piece; thanks for posting.

I thought our galaxies were hurtling apart
not about to collide. Maybe I was misinformed (or it could be the aging grey matter ;-) I did try to make this a little scary, or at least ominous: I'm so happy you heard a little beauty too. Thanks.

Shouldn't you be a sergeant by now?

Especially love it
when the bass kicks in, has a real eerie feel to it. This also has a majestic sound, I think it would be a great movie sound track. Kudos on a job well done.

Thank you John
It is a lovely bass sound, and the piece was supposed to be a little eerie. If you know any movie producers, have them call my people ;-) Glad you like it.

Interestingly...
(to me at least) I've created about 6 pieces now which started with a single Alchemy track -- you know, those evolving, developing synthy things -- which then inspired additions of melody, harmony, textures, etc. Some of them I quite like. Glad you like this one Kevin.

Grand and mysterious.
A sense of massive objects slowly moving through the void.
Good one Richard.

Nebula
Lovely piece. That bass sound really adds to it..even though it's just a few notes.
I've just got the Alchemy synth and have been having lots of fun with it.
Cool submission to the challenge
Enjoyed very much
cheers

I hope you enjoy Alchemy
as much as I do, and I've barely scratched the surface of all the things it can do.

Thanks for enjoying the listen; I enjoyed making it.

Thanks
for the insight into the creative process. I always enjoy reading about the technical side of how folks create their tracks.

Actually being adrift near Andromeda doesn't sound too bad at all if the music is anything to go by, although there is a slightly unsettling feel to the piece.

Cheers

I just gave you the bare bones Dick
The tweaks, effects, etc would take days to describe. Not true, but I thought it might sound impressive. Actually, I don't remember half the stuff I did to get those sounds. I do know that the Circuit Dialog and Tonga Surround tracks are heavily effected.

I'm glad the slightly unsettling feel comes through: being adrift means having no control, I think, so we could be adrift til the oxygen runs out.

Cheers back at ya, bro. Glad you enjoyed.

Adrift Near Andromeda (SRC13)
There is a palpable sense of deep space running through the mix, Richard. It really is a fine piece of work. Thanks, Peter.

Palpable
is such a great word Peter, thanks. I was trying for some sort of undercurrent of danger (eg: oxygen running out, see above) without it being obvious. Glad you like it, and said so.

Adrift
The low tones are spooky! The development is interesting - I like the introduction of different sounds and effects. The sounds around the 3:45 mark are worrying, too - some tension there. Powerful music!

bass pulse
Your choice of alchemy does add magic here, and I recognize some of my favorites (serena, tonga, etc.) However, the deep bass really gives this gravitas (pardon the almost pun.) Good use of restraint and pacing. And thank you for participating AND helping at Mission Control again!

I AM adrift near Andromeda
and the roaming rates are astronomical! Coincidentally I just finished listening to the latest Boards of Canada release, and this compares favourably. Nice job, Richard.

Yeah
This is what an SRC piece should sound like :-) A really spaced out tune, beautiful with an edge. Congratulations and looking forward to seconds (and thirds and... )

Thanks and take care,

Exactly!
The feeling the almost "reach out and touch it" majesty of the Andromeda spiral and the overwhelming realization of reality that home is a hopeless lifetime away and are all portrayed here.

I don't know which way is up any more. The glow of the galaxy looms huge as I slowly rotate. I love how you mixed in the deep bass to underpin the higher activity. Nice melodies in there too to give a little more forward movement to the piece.

A most pleasant interstellar journey Richard! Glad to have you back at the keyboard.

Nicely done. Love it when the bass kicks in. If I close my eyes visions of the universe fill my mind. I'm transported to another place. Nice job on the length as well, I have trouble writing long songs but you kept my interest throughout.

That deep bass...
...around 35 and following is awesome! You pick up on the grand scale of things in the cosmos with this track, everything moving with a certain purpose and decidedly unrushed pace. The whole track just resonates from start to finish with a rich and defined logic. It really IS quite a timeless thing you've created. Nicely done.
