Tannhäuser Gate [SRC 2013]

Description
I figured I'd give the 'Space Race Challenge' a try. This is my idea of an opening theme to a outer space television show. It's only 2-1/2 minutes long, to fit that criteria. Or, maybe I'm just too lazy?

"I've... seen things you people wouldn't believe... [laughs] Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those... moments... will be lost in time, like [coughs] tears... in... rain. Time... to die..." — Roy Batty [Blade Runner]

Great orchestration,
cool sounds/textures and dynamics. It would make a terrific intro to a sci-fi show or space documentary, but I think it lacks a memorable hook needed for a piece of theme music (might just be me, this morning ;-)

Yeah
The melodic and thematic development needs some work. Thanks for dropping by for a listen.

Gate
this was pure movie sound track to me, and i mean Pro. of all the entries i've heard so far, this one had the most dramic feel. rather intense.

Movie
Yeah, my idea of music for TV is to bring more substance and intensity to the little screen. Thank you for you supportive words.

Al,
Wow! I want to write stuff like this when I grow up. What are you using to put your orchestral stuff together? Really love the horns.

Stuff
Thanks for the kind words. I use NOTION3 to enter the score. With all the dynamic and articulation control, it's easier than using a piano roll editor. The amount of flexibility allows one to be a conductor, as well as performer and composer. The sound samples are from the East/West library.

Sure
Has the Alimar sign on it, with much going on in a short time. Great soundtrack music, only perhaps not as an opening theme (if we are talking tv-series).

Anyway, well done as usual :-)

Take care,
Henke

Splendid
All the trappings are presented and with a grand style. The strings caught my attention right away and the supporting writing was clean and concise. Thanks for sharing your talents with us!

Funny you should mention…
…TFTO… there is a short progression of chords near the end that sound like 'Remembering/High The Memory. Very insightful to where we may draw from. Thanks for listening and for your thoughts.

Tannhauser
I expected nothing less than pure cinematic, and this one delivered. It's like watching the binary sunrise on Veta 3, you know, in the philarian system. Great listen, thanks for posting.

The shoulder of Orion
Yes, certainly Rutger Hauer's finest film moment. The essential scene. This music is full of drama (has anyone mentioned that? hehe), too dramatic for Blade Runner even. Very powerful.

Leave them wanting more
Great textures in the opening, with the entry of the low brass crescendi we really have this piece taking off. I agree that there is a lot of thematic material that could really be played with however with that said in the short time you used you really had me 100% switched on. Production (samples etc. ) sounds great. TV would probably be too small a medium to really convey all of the depth you have going on here - or if on TV the show's warning should say that a good surround sound system is a requirement!

Powerful
Excellent dynamics. I'm jealous of you guys who can orchestrate things like this. I rely on synths, I just can't get orchestral samples to work! It's beautiful and fits the scene. The Tannhäuser Gate, yes.

Gliss
The use of glissando and slurs are the key to bending the notes. More and more sound libraries are including believable effects that include the sample and sound trails that complete a phrase with true, natural hall reverb. Thanks for your words.

This is great - extremely dramatic - great dynamics. A little like 2001 in places as well. All orchestral instruments?

Dramatic
All the sounds are string or brass orchestral sound articulation samples… sometimes layered to death! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

commented on this at week end, but it must have been when the bugs were about….anyway… What I said was, that this really is worthy of a TV show or film…lovely orchestral tones and combined with the textures a really pleasant listen, regards M

Includes the dark parts that characterise many memorable adventures, and has a nice majestic tone to the later parts. A great entry,

Opening tension set to 11
Yikes, this is going to be one heck of a show! The opening had me wide eyed, then you only give the merest relief as the low brass chords come to the rescue. Activity and motives all over the place which it sounds like your longer posted version will develop further. That is a good thing as there is way too much potential in this puppy to keep it caged into 2:30.
