Description
Junction. Home planet of the Spacing Guild and their mysterious, mutated Navigators, they who have the ability to 'fold' space and travel without moving. Come and join me for a look around this strange world. Smell the sweet, pervading atmosphere of the spice, melange. It's everywhere, stronger even than on Arrakis, the desert planet of its origin. Look with awe at the colossal, 50 mile long Heighliner space ships the navigators use to travel the universe.

Not an easy listen, but then, Junction is not an easy planet. I've used the Omnisphere, Zebra 2 and Alchemy synths to get all the sounds. No real melody; I've simply tried to capture the atmosphere of how I imagine Junction to be. Thanks for listening.

*Now I can go and take a listen to all the other entries!

The junction is done. Excellent production ! Sounds like a thousand of buddhistic monks congregate in a hidden tibetan grotto :)

Uncomfortable indeed
those monks are truly scary.

Great soundscape weaving the organic with the non-human.

Cheers

Hi Dave.....
This classic piece of Ambient would fit as a 'lost but rediscovered' track from the original motion picture. It is perfection for music to describe the grossly Melange-mutated humans and their singular world.

I am awed with the power of and the subject matter depicted within the boundaries of this soundscape.

Muad Dib and his son would both bestow honours upon you and the Space Guild would give you a free travel pass.

Don't forget to update your play list.

Woah!
Really nice use of wide and deep synth sounds. I love Omnisphere, but have not even scratched the surface of what it can offer. Love the Tuvan chanting, it is a great patch that has a lot of uses. I disagree on one thing though. It IS an easy listen, because the sound scape is so compelling. Good job.

I can see of Arrakis
so vividly as I listen to this.
I think I just saw Paul Muad'Dib in the distance rise up over a huge sand Dune.
Terrific!

Plenty of interesting melodies. But I do think you have it right. This challenge is much more about atmosphere than melody. Great atmosphere.

I can't resist anything with Dune references! One of the farthest out space operas ever. Great far out sounds to go along. Thanks.

Some excellent sounds, Dave
Definitely mysterious, and slightly mutated, I can almost smell the spice. Seven minutes of alien atmosphere. It's great that you are able to join in this year.

i looked,
but didn't expect those vari-colored, snaking swirls of mist surrounding the ships' bases. thought they made the Heighliner crafts even more impressive. a rich collage of sound.

Whoa!
Man, that's some freaky music. If I close my eyes I'm transported to Junction and feel like I'm out of my element in a strange place. I'm a weary traveler and Junction doesn't sound like a nice place to rest. Cool sounds!

Heavy ambient
But not without lighter sparklies: great dynamics and variation in this Tuvan(?) space opera! Not too difficult a listen, even if I'm sure there are more to be explored during the next couple of listens ;-)

Alas, Dune is a world I have yet to travel to. My eyes are not good with the sand, eh, I mean the small print of the books I've seen so far. Maybe it will be possible on my iPad...

Happy to see you around SRC this year :-)

Thanks for the 320 download and take care,
Henke

I want to try some of that spice
Wow, dark ambient! Genius. Who needs a melody when you can set a scene like this. All the bells and chimes add a mysterious backdrop to the conversation. Fold space, indeed. I remember the movie critics jumping all over that one. But I like the idea. It's not that far removed from actual physical concepts, except for the spice part --- and the Navigators. Fabulous piece of work.

Amazing sounds and scapes on this.
Love the throat singing sound.
What synth is that on or is it a sample?
I watched a rubbish film called Predators last night that was set on an alien planet.
The film was rubbish but would have been made much better if they'd had this on the soundtrack
Great entry into the spacerace challenge
cheers

Atmospheric and evocative, Dave. Don't hold my tickets to Junction, though. I think perhaps I might just stay at home. It sounds just a touch intimidating :-) Regards, Peter.

Navigator Music
This is very cool, creative and creepy. Very unique sounds you've put in here - not the standard ones by a long shot. The listening space is vibrant and alive, and your mix is very clean. There is a palpable otherworldliness to this piece that is not easily crafted since there is a fine balance between sounds we recognise like the tinkling wind chimes, and those that are from the uncanny valley like the chanting. Overall very evocative Dave, truly fine work. Will doodad it when I get home. As with other pieces I try to hear on my ipad I can only get the fist 2:15 or so of this one. That leaves a treat for when I get home.

Cheers Dave.

Hi Dave - sorry it's taken me so long to get here - my actual life is currently kicking my butt! i'm always so amazed by people who are so skillful in a genre like this. you have to make it hold together, but loosely - and you've done that beautifully here. really love the chanting!

The low chant...
...is spooky, and that drone in the bass provides an ominous foundation for this whole track. This is a world I would be scared to visit, but I have to say that your choice of synth pads as well as the melodic elements provide a very listenable track with great interest hiding behind all those shadowy wall. Very cool. (Am I almost hearing "Dead men tell no tales?" Maybe I am just projecting.)

Missed this before
Because no notifications. Before I read the blurb, I thought, "That's a seriously vagtastic - looking alien there." I've read all the Dune books and seen the movie and (pretty good) Sci Fi TV version, and, yes, this is exactly what it sounds like, in my brain at least.
