Orrery (SRC2013)

Description
This entry in the MJ Space Race Challenge 2013 contains 3 Alchemy tracks: Dead Space Blues, Corona Borealis, and Angelic Choir (all three may have been chosen because of SRC appropriate names ;-). There is a little melodic bit in the middle played by GB Casuarina Cascade, and then a little more played by GB Orchestral English Horn. Lots of effects and futzing to get it to sound like this.

An orrery is a mechanical device for showing the rotation of the moons around their planets and the planets around the sun.

Very nice.
First SRC I've listened to so far [other than my own, which I'm sick of by now...] and I'm impressed. Very melodic! I'm looking forward to a new playlist.

a clockwork
i really like the sequenced mechanical aspects of this, a nice contrast with the flowing sounds. pretty neat.

thanks

Hi Richard....
A truly wonderous mix.

I was wonderfully lost in the 'scape from the get go.

Take care.

Gentle drifting quality to this, with interesting "What's that? sort of sounds interspersed. It's beautiful, Richard.

Richard
Very rich sounding. I commented on Davjonah's piece that it was wide and deep and this piece has the same kind of sound field. the distant sounds along with the wide dynamic and tonal range definitely give the feeling of space.

This flows so well and the 3 note melodic sequences are a nice contrast to the sustained pads.

I like spacey,...
I learned of you when you strayed by my guitar work and left a nice comment. New to you, I chose to listen to this piece, firs,t not only because it is the most recent, but because it is about space, something I am deeply interested in. I could turn out the lights late at night, close my eyes, and thing about the Universe nicely with this. Thanks for sharing, very nice work!

This is a nice flowing, relaxing piece. The three note pattern kind of holds it all together nicely.

deep
and full. sorta surprised me with the style, but not that it was done so well. earthy and unearthy at the same time.

Wonderful ideas...
...and a wonderful mix of sounds that are all so beautifully orchestrated into a composition that rises and swirls while making steady progress across a wide landscape. (I like the little 3-note figure that pulses through about 75% of the track. A very wise choice of a unifying device.)And, yes, that hint of a melody was just there to tease, I suppose. I would so like to add an oboe obligato above about 1/2 of this work, a little melody to let the mellow orchestration rise a little bit in intensity and focus. ... Wow. This is quite a beautiful thing you've created.

Beautiful
Another great piece from your Alchemy lab. Nice additions from other "labs" as well. I don't get my GB Horns to sound like that, for example :-/ Well done and thanks!

Take care,
Henke

An awkward word if ever there was one. But a beautiful piece of music. Just the right length, which is often a problem with this genre. Personally, I don't care for the fuzzy breathy voices in LP X, generally speaking, and I'm struggling with the current sound palette. I might have to get Omnisphere. Anyway, your second very wonderful contribution to this year's SRC! Loved it.

This piece certainly gives that impression of traveling through space……. nice mix of synths and orchestral; seamless and enjoyed, regards M

Beautiful.
Fabulous slow build-up and the strong and subtle melody really makes this an outstanding entry. A great blend of sounds that harmonise and contrast in all the right ways. I say again, beautiful, and thanks for the download.

I've always liked "orrery" as a word. I like this, too. Lovely restrained opening that does convey a wonderful sense of "clockwork" repetition. Space is a more contemplative place here than in many SRC posts :-) Fine work. Thanks, Richard. Regards, Peter.

Some Really Cool ... sounds here. Just came here after listening to DavaJonah's, so the mood is roughly the same (minus the alien "vocals"). 👽
